• Alonzo kills Roger and shoots Jeff with one of Roger's guns to make it look like self defense. Alonzo then says that their story will be that they kicked the door in, Roger shot Jeff twice (and wounded him) as he came through the door, then Hoyt came in next and shot Roger. So after they called in the shooting, they managed to cut open the kitchen floor and dig up a chest of money in the less than four minutes it took for responders to arrive? They can't say it was like that when they got there, because the chainsaw and shovels they used were LAPD property that they checked out earlier.
  • Cops have covered for each other in even more egregious circumstances. As long as no one notes in the report that they dug up the kitchen BEFORE the shooting, there's nothing much there to work with. Alonzo always said "It's not what you know; it's what you can prove".
