  • Was the music Lord Ambrose d'Arcy plagiarised from Professor Petrie ever publicly credited to its actual author? It could be gathered that it was due to Petrie standing in his "haunted" box in full view of the audience during the opera's performance at the end. But d'Arcy's continued presence at the opera house seems to contradict this. Surely he would have been forced to leave in disgrace prior to the opera's premiere if the theft had been revealed. Then again, a ruined reputation could account for d'Arcy's foul mood in his final appearance.
