  • Maybe I missed something, but what exactly was it about Barbara Rose's behavior that was so appalling? Other than being overall a little vague/dizzy, and having too much to drink at the party, I didn't really see anything that was truly outrageous. She wasn't causing an uproar or saying anything embarrassing, she just had a bit too much and then passed out. Is that considered really outrageous for that time?
    • As far as the House of Woodcock is concerned, yes. Each of Reynolds' dresses is a unique work of art into which he has sunk immense time and care. To Reynolds and Alma, behaving in an undignified way in a Woodcock dress is an incredible insult, like wiping your nose on a Van Gogh.
    • She went completely unconscious, with her head smacking onto the table, and had to be physically carried out by three men like a sack of potatoes while wearing the dress. That's pretty embarrassing, particularly in such a high society setting.
