Headscratchers / The Conjuring 2

  • Lorraine says that she saw an angel in a hospital when she was a girl. OK, we established that in a world of evil ghosts and demons, angels exist. So, why aren't the angels getting off their feathery butts and actually doing something to protect humanity? Why do the Warrens have to do all the work? Do angels in this world do anything but stand around in hospitals and look pretty on the off-off-off chance that someone with the ultra rare ability to see angels can admire them?
    • Presumably the angel was in the hospital because people die in hospitals, and the angel was going to lead them on to the afterlife; it wasn't just "standing around looking pretty." Lorraine even says that it was leaning over another boy, and happened to look up and notice that she could see it. And there's no indication angels don't help possessed people. We've only seen a couple of Ed and Lorraine's cases onscreen; just because there wasn't any divine intervention in those instances doesn't mean that it never happens.
    • According to the Bible, Angels are the messengers of God and the earth is the Devil's domain. An Angel making an appearance to Lorraine but not playing an active role could be part of that interpretation.
    • It's unlikely Lorraine would see angels at the cases she attends, because help has already been sent, in the form of her husband and herself.
  • In the first movie, it's mentioned that Lorraine saw something that made her reluctant to take any more cases. OK. In The Conjuring 2, the vision is revealed to be a vision of Ed's death, seen during a seance at the Amityville house. OK. But, the first Conjuring movie takes place before the events at Amityville. Huh? So did Lorraine see the vision twice and decide to stop ghost hunting only after the second time? Did she see an entirely different vision the second time? What?
    • She said she saw the same vision twice, seven years apart. Not sure about the exact timeline, but apparently yes.
