Headscratchers / Space Ghost Coast to Coast

  • Why did they even try to have a bit of continuity if they were just going to throw it all out? It seems like they have two or three different versions of how the show was started, and that's just mild compared to others. I know they poke fun at it in later episodes and even in later shows, but it just seems odd.
  • Did Zorak and Moltar work at the studio out of their own free will, or were they prisoners of Space Ghost?
    • Pretty sure they were forced into it.
    • The Scooby-Doo! Team-Up arc where Tad teams up with Mystery Inc. actually provides a backstory for Coast to Coast: Zorak and Moltar hypnotized Space Ghost so that he thought he was a talk-show host. Assuming that Cartoon Network actually is within their universe as a massive media giant that employs the characters, then it actually works rather well within the realllly loose canon of Hanna-Barbera's works and addresses the presence of other villains like Brak (they were either hypnotized too or were playing along), the celebrities (they were contacted and agreed to do interviews for the show), SG's bizarre/eccentric behavior (side-effects of the hypnosis), and the Negative Continuity combined with how increasingly ridiculous the show got as it went on (Zorak and Moltar warping Tad's mind to higher levels to keep the lie going).
  • Meta-wise, while we don't mean to dismiss everything that was there's one question that really should be asked in terms of What Could Have Been. Would this show have been just as funny if the programming room could have invented their own characters or was them reusing the old characters made it funnier? By comparison you could easily say Harvey Birdman in its original format needed to be a parody but Sealab 2021 didn't even bother using the same names or personalities and would have been just the same with new designs and a different sealab. But in the end how important do you think using the character designs were or if Ted had given both Hanna Barbera and Cartoon Network more money we could have had our cake and eaten it too?
