- Is CD a professional fire chief? If so, how has he allowed his fire department to remain so incompetent for so long, if he's such an intelligent and capable guy? Why does he need to rely on Chris's help to train everyone? Hasn't that been his job for some time?
- CD is an intelligent and capable guy but he is also portrayed as prickly and condescending (justifiable so if he's had to spend so long defending himself from bullies). His reaction to incompetence isn't to try and work out how to cure it but how to make a sarcastic comment about it. Chris, on the other hand, is a regular guy, able to work with the other firemen on their level and improve them.
