How is the crisis kept secret?
  • I have been wondering: In the first game's final cutscene, it is mentioned that the Island Campaign was nothing but a terrorist attack on a NATO training facility, which was repulsed with minimal losses. While it is understandable that both NATO/the US and the USSR would want to keep the conflict secret to prevent mass panic and avoid embarassment, the question remains... How? The campaign took placee over more than two months, and it was definitely not resolved with few losses. Even if it didn't become easily known that probably hundreds of US soldiers died while stationed there without social media, what about the necessary traffic to the area? The US sent additional troops including tanks, helicopters and close air support aircraft. While military surveillance might have been told to look the other way, what about fishermen, civilian pilots or simply the people living on Malden and Everon? The story would be worth a Pulitzer at the very least.
