Headscratchers / Nobody

• What was the point of Yulian saying that Hutch killed his brother, despite him specifically not doing so. Is it meant to show that he's unhinged and has lost track of what's going on, or is it simply in service to the film being an Affectionate Parody of thrillers with similar plotlines?
  • The brother is implied to be brain dead, so the distinction is somewhat arbitrary.
    • In addition to this, Hutch actually corrects Yulian when he says that, and Yulian treats it as a Distinction Without a Difference.
  • Perhaps Yulian's brother did eventually die in the hospital.
  • Yulian's brother has been beaten so badly that he has irreversible brain damage, and likely cannot survive for long without medical intervention. He might not be literally dead, but to all intents and purposes he's as good as.
• What's up with the painting (Van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles) Hutch takes from Yulian's office? He carries it everywhere after that scene, but it is never actually referenced in any way.
  • Assuming that painting isn't a replication and is actually the genuine article, it's possible Hutch is looking to sell it off later. After all, the family's home is burned down and his stash of gold is given to his father-in-law for the warehouse and property. By the end of the film, Hutch and Becca are looking to buy a new house, which they'll need at least some money for a purchase. Either that or Hutch simply likes Vincent van Gogh paintings.
    • On a second viewing, when Hutch asks "The Barber" about Yulian's hobbies, the Barber mentions the art he collects are valued in the eight to nine figures. That should indicate the Bedroom in Arles painting Hutch has taken must be the real deal worth tens of millions when sold.
