- Many people complain that the reason this is such a bad adaptation is that the characters are too macabre and the new depiction is just an overall too mean-spirited and murderous. Which is... exactly why people (often the same ones!) love the Darker and Edgier remakes of The Addams Family. What gives? (And "because it's not The Addams Family" isn't an answer. People are constantly comparing them as though they're parallels or rivals as it is.)
- The answer to that is simply fidelity to the original source material in both cases. The TV adaptation of "The Addams Family" had to tone them down from the original Charles Addams cartoons, where they did fun family activities like pour boiling hot oil on Christmas carolers. The Munsters were always intended from the first to be good-natured under their appearances. Critics feel that this adaptation merely turns the Munsters into The Addams Family with a charm lobotomy.
- Why is the family so hard on Marilyn's appearance when they all look normal in this version, too?
