Headscratchers / Halo: Combat Evolved

  • How is it that Cortana somehow manages to regain contact with Foehammer in "The Maw" after last talking to her in "Assault on the Control Room"? Also, what was Foehammer doing around the Pillar Of Autumn's crash site, to begin with?
    • In **The Flood**, she knows what Master Chief's mission is and is there specifically to pick him up.
  • The MA5B is the only Assault Rifle version in any of the games to have 60-round magazines, and I can't come up with any explanation other than the Pillar of Autumn being the only place 60-round magazines were stored, as it's implied all the humans' ammunition, weapons, vehicles, marines, etc. came from the Pillar of Autumn in Halo: CE, but that brings up another question: Since the Pillar of Autumn was docked at Reach right before the events of Combat Evolved, and the equipment onboard was different than the counterparts on Reach, why was it noticeably different than the ones available on-planet? And on the topic of it, then why is there a pelican from the Pillar of Autumn containing marines with the same MA37s used on Reach? Were their guns never located within any player-accessible locations on the ship?
    • It's gameplay and story segregation most than anything else. If an in-universe reason is NEEDED, the Pillar of Autumn was supposed to go on a special mission before the attack on Reach threw that out the window. If any place was going to have specialized weapons on its racks, it would be that ship.
    • A combined out-of-universe and in-universe explanation would be that the guns the Marines with Captain Keyes have are supposed to be MA 5 Bs since the MA 37 was an Army version. The MA 5 C is what you see in Halo 3 and Halo 3 ODST and is pretty much an MA 5 B with a smaller magazine, which the MA 37 is a functional clone of. Nothing else seems different, so if anyone got aboard the Pillar of Autumn with an MA 37, you'd just put in the 60-round mag and be fine.
