So how has nobody noticed the lake of glowing blue shit that's apparently a few hundred feet below the surface of the Earth?
The Gaia was only revealed when a cannon was fired from space with the force intended to wipe out an entire species. And the cannon was fired about three times before the Gaia was revealed. And the site was already where a meteor had crashed.
Additionally it's probably not usually that close to the surface or visible. It's just that Gaia currently has a supernatural parasite trying to suck the life out of it. The majority of the Phantoms including the remains of their own equivalent to Gaia don't properly understand what's going on and so latched onto the Earths spirit trying to hold themselves together. This dragged it up to the surface.
How many people have risked leaving safe zones? Only a handful of people have even left the domes to even do cursory investigation.
