  • The way the group thinks that being out of fuel is such an automatic death sentence that it makes it okay to kill for it. Walking, checking towns for still-fueled cars, or alternative means of transport seems completely out of the question.
    • Its probably far enough into the collapse that most parked cars and pumps have already been sucked dry. Remember the scientist back at the Safe Zone said they had sucked that entire town dry just to run their generator. And yes, wheeled transportation is extremely important, as you cant afford to waste energy or hydration walking everywhere in this kind of situation.
    • It's an American-made film with American characters in it. Thus No Bikes in the Apocalypse is their genuine state of the mind, both in-universe and on the meta-level of script writing. You will see this in countless other American-made post-apocalyptic fiction: either it's a car, or a horse, or it's a death sentence of supposed immobility.
