Crossovers

  • Defied in Weiss' case in Boop the Snoot for Critical Damage!. She may have inherited Willow's looks, but she's actively trying very hard not to become like her alcoholically depressed mother, even though Pandora's insanity seems hell-bent on making her take up the bottle to cope with it all.
Weiss: Must not form drinking habit. Genetic inclination would make it disastrous.
  • In The Bridge (MLP), Princess Cadance closely resembles an alicorn version of her ancestor, the late Princess Amore, with some slight color tweaks. It's so great that King Sombra briefly mistakes Cadance for Amore when she's wearing her predecessor's armor. The similarity in appearance is justified as it's heavily implied that Cadance is actually Amore's time-displaced daughter.
  • The Dragon and the Butterfly: Despite the fact that they have completely different personalities (and their relationship being strained for the first half of the story), Gobber (and later Mirabel) notes that Stoick and Hiccup are both stubborn, determined men who do whatever they can to protect the ones they love (they simply go about it in different ways).
  • Flag Flying High manages to replay the Wangxian romance with both men's adopted sons, Sizhui being the tightlaced, emotionally repressed, and white-clad Lan sect member helplessly falling for Harry, the quirky outsider who drags an aura of danger and dresses in black. Lan Qiren's reaction lampshades it.
  • Shadows over Meridian: When six of the parents of the six noble heirs of Castwell's Peak are introduced in Chapter 32, their dynamics have noticeable similarities with those of their children. For instance, both generations have a carefree Ascelot hunter who likes to tease the serious and military-minded Wildstorm and is a Sitcom Arch-Nemesis with the snooty Emmony lady.
  • In The Silver Raven, Nero takes a lot after his aunt, Eda, in terms of personality thanks to his rebellious attitude and refusal to take part in the coven system, and this is well before he even knew he had an aunt. Lilith is shown to be aware of this and finds it rather terrifying, given that him going down the same road as her sister could lead to him being branded as a wild witch.

Ace Attorney

  • Evoked in Older Nick and Maya which has post-timeskip Maya and Phoenix dressed a lot like Maya's older sister Mia and her attorney partner and Love Interest Diego respectively. Pearl eagerly proclaims that the two are the new Diego and Mia, while Apollo wonders if that makes him and Pearl the new Phoenix and Maya respectively.

Cardcaptor Sakura

  • Shadow of the Dragon: In chapter 13, it's established that Sakura, Tomoyo, Rika, Naoko, and Chiharu's mothers are similar to their daughters, albeit with slight differences:
    • Tomoyo is a Lipstick Lesbian and in love with Sakura, echoing the relationship between their mothers Sonomi and Nadeshiko.
    • Nadeshiko was in a Teacher/Student Romance, whereas Rika is in one with Mr. Terada.
    • Yuuka, Rika's mother, had a "foreign boyfriend" (Rika's father Jyou is Japanese-American); Sakura is in a relationship with Syaoran, a Chinese boy.
    • Chiharu's mother, Yukiko, had a tendency to strangle her then-boyfriend just as Chiharu does to Takashi, though in that case, it's for getting lost in sports stories rather than telling lies.

Cars

A Certain Magical Index

  • A Certain Droll Hivemind: Misaki-11111's roommates have the powers of Vector Manipulation, Dark Matter, and Meltdown. Most of the Sisters believe this is an experiment to find synergistic interaction between the known Level 5 powers without putting the actual Level 5s at risk or in a position where they could kill each other. Last Order thinks that they're attempting to collect a 'full set' of Espers with the same abilities.

Digimon

  • Digimon Adventure 02: The Story We Never Told: Once it's revealed who the original Digidestined were, a number of parallels are drawn between Tai and Sora's father, such as how both were the leaders of their respective groups and have gravity-defying hair. This deeply embarrasses Sora.

Dragon Age

Friends

  • Discussed in "One Weekend in 2022" as Ross and Rachel reflect on Emma and their son Leo (named after his maternal grandfather). Ross notes that he finds it harder to relate to Leo as Leo is more popular and outgoing where Emma is more careful and intellectual, essentially feeling that Emma takes after him while he worries that Leo may be too much like Rachel was in high school. However, Rachel assures Ross that Leo has a good heart and won't go as far as she did back in those days.

Homestuck

K-On!

  • Shiratamama's series of fancomics about the daughters of Mio and Ritsu utilizes this.

The Legend of Korra

  • The Legend of Genji: Unlike her older brother, Varrick's daughter Minli is described as being a carbon copy of her father, having inherited his physical traits, personality, business savvy, and knack for inventing. She was eventually handed control of Varrick Global Industries and became a successful business magnate like her father.

Monster Girl Quest

  • Black Alice and Heinrich, the two main characters of The Tyrant and the Hero are a Monster Lord and a human hero who's initially unaware of the former's true nature (and later gains the power of the Four Spirits), like their eventual descendants Alice and Luka. However, one difference is that the Monster Lord in this story starts out naive and is also the one who initially handles the fighting, whereas the human is the (relatively) more worldly one, the opposite of their descendants.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

  • In the CMC: The Next Generation, a Spin-Off of the Bride of Discord "verse", we have Rainbow Dash's daughter Prism, who can be best described as a cross between Applebloom and Scootaloo personality-wise with her mother's looks, who on advice from Aunt Scootaloo, forms the titular new generation note  of the CMC with her friends.
  • The Elements of Harmony and the Savior of Worlds: Megan is stunned at the similarities between the Applejack and Spike she knew and the present ones. And then we find out that AJ is in fact descended from the original Applejack and Spike is G1 Spike's (now King Spykoran) grandson.
  • In Epic Unicorn History The Beards Of Harmony, our six bearded heroes seem and act suspiciously like our six young heroines from the show. They are also destined to become friends and save the newly founded Equestria from a threat in the Everfree Forest.
  • In Mirror's Image Twilight and her mother Chrysallis have pretty similar backstories: Both were students of Celestia, both had used the Element of Magic, and both were Switched at Birth.

Naruto

  • Played With in in dreams you follow (but I dream in the dark). While Kakashi sees much of his original team in the new Team Seven, he realizes that he originally 'miscast' his students. Originally, he saw far too much of himself in Sasuke, projecting Obito onto Naruto and Rin onto Sakura. After getting to know the trio better, he realizes that he sees more of his past self in Sakura — namely her intelligence, potential, and how she's having trouble learning when it's best to follow the rules versus bending or breaking them. Sasuke, meanwhile, shares Obito's desperate desire to prove himself, and Naruto functions as The Heart of their team. Kakashi also acknowledges that the ways they differ from his old team make it less painful being around them, and that the way he projected so much onto them before hampered their ability to work together.
  • In reverse, Naruto is delighted to hear that his mother was also a ramen-loving prankster who dreamed of becoming the next Hokage. Kurama also teaches him his Kushina's Chakra Chain technique.
  • Vapors: Deliberately Invoked by the Third Hokage, Jiraiya, and others, as Minato and Kushina's kids are too skilled for them not to pass their techniques down. While Aiko acknowledges the logic in this, she still hates being compared to people that she doesn't consider to be her actual parents.
  • In White Rain, Sakura uses something similar to Kakashi's bell test on her own genin team... with her own twist.
    • An even more critical part of the plot is Uchiha Itachi's two children. The older son (also named Itachi) takes more after Sasuke — but the younger daughter (Rina) is the one who takes after her father.
  • A Wrinkle in Time plays with this through Kakashi's perspective of his team. Naruto's shift in attitude makes him start thinking that he's closer in personality to him than he is to Obito, as they both hide themselves behind masks. Given how Kakashi went through an Hourglass Plot with Obito, that creates its own parallels.

One Piece

  • Lampshaded by Garp in This Bites! after seeing his grandson Luffy and his crew fly off on their ship and Iceberg (one of Puffing Tom's apprentices) leading the shipwright of the seceeded Water 7 in defense of their home, with him asking where is his clone. Cue his own apprentice Coby coming over and asking for further orders for the other marines. Garp smiles and states to himself "asked and answers" before giving his command
    • At the end of the Skypeia arc, Conis tells the Strawhats that she wants to join them in exploring the world. Her father Paguya then tells them that Conis's mother Serra previously sailed with another crew of Blue Sea pirates: the Roger Pirates.

Persona

  • Ren Shirogami-Tatsumi in Sleuthing Tricker of Crafts shares traits with both of his parents, such as a passion for sewing from his father Kanji and detective reasoning along with a strong sense of justice from his mother Naoto, and was training to become a detective like her before being charged for assault.

Power Rangers

  • The Power Rangers: Dino Thunder fic "Always a Ranger" often draws attention to the idea that the Dino Thunder team is very similar to the original Rangers. Examples include Conner and Ethan bonding with Jason and Billy in particular when they come to visit Reefside (as well as Ethan being grateful to see some ethnic diversity when Adam and Zack drop in), Tommy sharing his own history as a minion of evil with Trent, and Kira coming to see Kimberly as a kind of older sister even before Kim finds the Pink Dino Gem. Kim returns the sentiment to the extent of asking Kira to be a bridesmaid, even if she acknowledges that part of this request is to fill the metaphorical gap left by the deceased Trini.

Reborn! (2004)

  • Vigilante Tendency has Sawada Tsunayoshi (accidentally) start a vigilante group, just like his ancestor Sawada Ieyasu, aka Giotto, Vongola Primo. Once the Vongola enter the scene, rumors start up about how Tsuna might actually be Primo's clone.

RWBY

  • Coeur Al'Aran's expansion of Summer Rose's personality in his fics, such as Relic of the Future and Wise as an Old Qrow, show that she's very similar to Ruby in more than just looks: from profound compassion, idealism, stubborness and an ability to read people's feelings, to being socially-awkward and easily emotional, Ruby inherited many of her own quirks from her mother.
  • Played for Laughs in The Long Suffering Ruby Rose. Ruby and her half-sister Yang are products of a polyamory relationship between their dad and two of his teammates. Ruby doesn't believe her Uncle Qrow when he says to watch out for Yang taking after their dad. In the end, Yang does end up dating their two other teammates Blake and Weiss.

A Song of Ice and Fire

  • A Caged Songbird: Sansa notes that her daughter Joanna is exactly like Arya, which is likely why she bonds so swiftly with Jon.
  • In a supremely ironic subversion, Purple Days shows the Stormlords come to think of this of Joffrey Baratheon after seeing his sheer martial skill on the battlefield.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice

  • The series "Der Zauberlehrling", starting just after the film, not only leads to Drake Stone being given a chance to redeem himself by becoming Balthazar's second apprentice as they observe he was never a true Morganian, but Veronica subsequently helps Becky realise that she has magical potential herself. Balthazar muses that there are now distinct similarities between Dave, Becky and Drake to Merlin's original apprentices of himself, Veronica and Horvath, but expresses hope that the new trio can avoid falling apart like they did originally, particularly since there is no sign that Drake is interested in Becky like Horvath's past obsession with Veronica.

Superman

  • In the Smallville fic "Shatterpoint", Raya's tales of Jor-El's life basically presents her as the equivalent of Chloe Sullivan back on Krypton, as she was a close friend to Jor-El (Clark) who he never saw as anything more than a close friend after the death of Louise Lang (Lana) before falling in love with Lara (Lois).

Tangled: The Series

  • Light of the Moon:
    • Quirin notes to himself that Varian looks a lot like his mother, especially after he starts wearing her old goggles and gloves.
    • Subverted with Gothel and Rapunzel (for obvious reasons) as Varian notes that Gothel, despite claiming to be Rapunzel's mother, looks nothing like her.

Teen Titans

  • The sheer VOLUME of Teen Titans fan characters that are simply palette-swapped expies of their parents, typically the creators' preferred ship, could fill a couple of dimensions in the multiverse alone. Of course, some people have some fun with the idea...

The Tudors

  • Queen Anne's Legacy:
    • Edward does indeed grow up to be just like his father, just in all the wrong ways. He inherits his father's ruthlessness, obsessive tendencies, arrogance, and overall penchant for making decisions in regards to his personal desires rather than duty or politics. By the time any of his supporters realize how unfit he is to be king, the damage is already done and they're forced to stick with him.
    • Much like his father, Ambrose struggles to sire a legitimate son, as his wife Joanna keeps giving birth to daughters. Unlike his father, Ambrose refuses to set Joanna aside because of this and is committed to making his eldest daughter his heir if he never has a son.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

  • The Merry Go Round Broke Down is set sixty years after the events of the film. Eddie has since passed, but his grandson Freddie carries on the family business of detective work.

The Worst Witch

  • Suggested in The Blood of the Covenant when Miss Hardbroom expresses some concern when she finds herself basically acting as Mildred's guardian after the deaths of her family. Miss Pentangle ultimately identifies the reason for this fear as Miss Hardbroom being concerned that she will treat Mildred the way her own mentor, Mistress Broomhead, treated her.
