Vigilante Tendency is a Reborn! (2004) Fan Fic by Kyogre. It is a Crack Fic detailing how, thanks to For Want Of A Nail, Sawada Tsunayoshi embarks on the road to his destiny a little bit earlier.

The official summary on FanFiction.net: Complete, semi-AU. There's such a thing as being too much like the 1st generation. Tsuna didn't mean to start a vigilante group, but somehow it happened anyway. Well done, "Neo Primo," well done.

Tropes:

  • Absurdly Powerful Student Council: The Disciplinary Committee is now the Disciplinary Council, renamed to differentiate it from the PNC.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: The PNC gets their headquarters after Hibari takes matters into his own hands and takes over a Yakuza base by himself for use.
  • Always Save the Girl: Thanks to For Want Of A Nail, Tsuna's path towards vigilantism begins when he tries to protect his crush Kyoko from some bullies who wanted to get revenge on Ryohei. It all goes downhill from there.
  • Blackmail: Fuuta blackmails Iemitsu in the third chapter by subtly threatening to tell Tsuna and Nana what their father/husband really does for a living.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Kyoko. One of the reasons why Tsuna put a stop the Sun Guardian position being decided by combat is because he knew Ryohei had no chance of surviving. And when she shows up at Vongola HQ, Tsuna was visibly shaken. Even though it wasn't really Kyoko.
  • Butt-Monkey:
    • Iemitsu. He ends up getting blackmailed by Fuuta — a grade schooler. Not to mention having Reborn attacking him for his son assuming that Reborn was his half-sibling and watching his "civilian" son act decidedly un-civilian like when the Vongola comes calling.
    • Tsuna. Because his friends are all crazy to varying degrees and he's the one stuck keeping them all under control.
  • Captain Oblivious: Iemitsu is ranked as the 32nd most likely mafioso to miss something obvious. It might not mean much at a glance, until one remembers how many mafioso there actually are.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Timoteo's "whiskey-tea" becomes a plot point when Xanxus comes into the picture. Tsuna's payback for Xanxus attacking him after Tsuna freed him is to order Chrome to cast an illusion over all the alcohol in the mansion so it all tastes like tea. The only alcohol left untouched was Nono's personal stash, as Tsuna felt that it would be cruel to deprive of him of that relief. Once Xanxus finds this out, it has the unintended side effect of forcing father and son to have a much needed talk.
  • Child Hater: Inverted. When Gokudera arrives in the third chapter, he believes the PNC is committed to opposing adult oppression and thus becomes an adult hater.
  • Crack Fic: One where everyone is completely in-character.
  • Deadpan Snarker: As his life gets crazier and crazier, Tsuna's only way to remain sane is to become snarkier and more sarcastic.
  • Descent into Addiction: After meeting his new heir, Timoteo starts adding whiskey to his tea and begins a steady descent into alcoholism. It doesn't take long before Visconti joins him, considering his successor is supposed to be Hibari.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Literally. After lecturing his predecessors during the Trial, Tsuna is immediately accepted by the ring and confronted by Primo, who welcomes him with open arms. Realizing what a massive mistake he's made, Tsuna naturally blames his ancestor and punches him in the chest.
  • Disaster Dominoes: How the events of the fic are set up as. It's strongly implied that Primo went through a similar sequence events when starting the Vongola.
  • The Dreaded:
    • Hibari, of course. Even his mentor Visconti is terrified of him.
    • Kyoko. Even Hibari is scared of her, not that he'll ever admit it.
    • Tsuna is this whenever he gets into lecture mode, though judging by Lambo's reaction to him being hit by the Dying Will Bullet, he becomes feared for a lot more than that.
  • Entertainingly Wrong:
    • A series of events at Mafia Land that results in the crippling of the biggest crime power in Asia. This results in rumors about a new power in Asia, and assassins and hitmen in Namimori. Tsuna's exasperation is very understandable.
    • When Iemitsu shows up with Reborn and TYL!Lambo in tow, Tsuna has a very interesting reaction.
Tsuna: You better not be here to tell us you cheated on Mom and that I have half-siblings.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • See Always Save the Girl above. If Iemitsu weren't such an idiot, he might've caught on to what was happening sooner.
    • The Bovino Family gets jealous of the Tomaso Family's robot army, which causes them to experiment with the Ten-Year Bazooka. This results in Lambo's personal timeline permanently moving forward ten years.
    • The aforementioned crippling of a major crime family mentioned in Entertainingly Wrong is what brings both Gokudera, and later on, Mukuro into the fold.
  • Generation Xerox: It's worse than canon. There are rumors that Tsuna might actually be Primo's clone.
  • Giving Up on Logic: Tsuna gives up on logic after the first two or so chapters and ends up just going with the flow in hopes of keeping with what's left of his sanity.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: Tsuna manages to endear himself to the Momokyokai by being a saint in comparison to the hellion that is Hibari.
  • Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Hibari. Mukuro has shades of this as well.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Timoteo becomes a Functional Alcoholic after he meets his successor, Tsuna. His Cloud Guardian Visconti joins him after meeting his successor, Hibari. It's implied that the rest of the Ninth Generation find similar ways to cope once the Tenth Generation becomes too much.
  • Involuntary Charity Donation: What Shoichi does with the Difo Family's money.
  • Mecha-Mooks: After Tsuna convinces Spanner to return home and turns Naito towards vigilantism, the Tomaso Family becomes well-known for their robot army.
  • Nerves of Steel: Tsuna quickly develops this over the course of the narrative. He barely blinks when Xanxus begins shooting at him and Daemon Spade's appearance doesn't phase him in the least.
"So, you're going to use Kyoko-chan to see if I flip out like you did when my girlfriend dies?"
  • Only Sane Man: Tsuna is by far the sanest member of the Peaceful Namimori Committee.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • When hit by the Dying Will Bullet, it's revealed that Tsuna's greatest regret is not telling his friends how annoying he found their nonsense. With the exception of Gokudera, none of them take it to heart.
    • Tsuna gives one to all the Vongola bosses during the trial, culminating in him punching Primo in the abdomen.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Hibari. Just... Hibari.
    • It's outright stated that with or without starting the PNC, Tsuna was never going to grow up normal thanks to the fact that he lived in a suburb that was also inhabited by Hibari.
    • When Tsuna is called to rein him in after he started destroying a rival famiglia's bases all across Europe, nobody asks how he managed to get anywhere considering he pointedly spoke only Japanese (and made it clear that was not going to change).
  • Reverse Psychology: Tsuna is a master of it.
  • Seen It All: By the time the Vongola show up Tsuna has long-since resigned himself to the craziness that is his life and is hardly phased by anything anyone does to try and shock him. Reborn sulks as that means his new student is impossible to torture.
  • Taking You with Me: In order to retain what's left of his sanity, Tsuna develops a sadistic streak and tries to spread the pain as much as he can. One of the reasons he keeps Mukuro around is because he's the one person that can drive Hibari insane.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: Literally. After learning that Tsuna has undergone the Trial, his friends immediately assumed he lectured the previous Vongola bosses. They're right.
  • True Companions: As crazy as they are, Tsuna does love his friends and enjoys what they do.
  • We Help the Helpless: When they aren't doing vigilante work, the PNC generally does volunteer work for the town, taking requests such as finding lost pets, helping set up community events, etc. They even take requests from the town government, and in exchange don't have to pay for utilities for their base.
  • Yakuza: The Momokyokai, who end up becoming a branch of the Peaceful Namimori Committee.
