Funny / Weird: The Al Yankovic Story

Go To

Warning that Moments pages are Spoilers Off

It's a "Weird Al" Yankovic movie - of course it'll have these!

  • Teenage Al's attempt at Calling the Old Man Out is... less than graceful.
Al: One day I'll be the best... well not technically the best, but arguably the most famous accordion player in an extremely specific genre of music!
  • Al's first attempt at joining a band is a punk band, where he plays a polkafied "Beat on the Brat".
  • The reaction of Al and his roommates when "My Bologna" is played on the radio and Al becomes an instant sensation. They're yelling and screaming and freaking out with all of the vigor of football fans whose team just won the World Cup.
  • When Tony Scotti turns Al down for his record deal, Ben Scotti starts mocking his appearance, much to the uncomfortable chagrin of Tony... who is played by the real Al.
  • The pool party at Dr. Demento's home is both a Crowning Moment of Funny and a Moment of Awesome. It's funny enough to see a Cameo Cluster of unlikely '80s pop-culture icons hanging out at a radio DJ's swimming pool, then gets better at the absurdity of Wolfman Jack (played by Jack Black!) challenging Al to create a new parody on the spot. It then veers into a major Moment of Awesome when Al rises to the occasion, with nothing but his accordion and an empty suitcase.
  • Pablo Escobar as a die-hard "Weird Al" fanboy.
  • The repeated insistence that "Eat It" is a completely original tune that Al came up with all by himself. And then Michael Jackson makes a parody of it.
    • The cherry on top is that Al is furious that people will think Jackson's song came first.
  • Al's meltdown at the restaurant when he hears about "Beat It" is an extremely funny moment in its entirety. He becomes more and more unhinged by the second, and quickly alternates between screaming at the top of his lungs and banging the telephone receiver on the desk, while a hapless Tony Scotti (played by the real Al, remember) can only wince and listen in shocked silence on the other end.
  • Dr. Demento gives Al his honest opinion on Madonna after Al's standard musician biopic freak-out on his band.
Dr. Demento: I think Madonna's a bad influence on you. I think she's an evil, conniving succubus, and she's only using you for her pathetic and selfish needs.
    • Even better, Madonna is right there and Demento gives her a sincere "No offense." Madonna responds with a casual hand wave that indicates "None taken."
  • What eventually causes Al and Madonna to split? After Al kills Escobar, Madonna out of nowhere declares they should take over his cartel. It's one of the most over-the-top parts of an already over-the-top sequence.
    • As Al walks away, she tries to shoot him for knowing too much. She misses. A lot. Al doesn’t even try to dodge.
  • Al's father eventually reveals via sketchbook that he was raised Amish, which is why he'd always been so hard on Al, and the pair connect over an old song his father wrote. Cut to Al performing "Amish Paradise" at the awards ceremony as his parents watch on TV...
Nick Yankovic: Man, I shoulda kept the publishing rights.
    • But the crowning moment is when during the performance, you see the reactions of the entire crowd enjoying the song, except for Coolio, staring on with disdain. No need to explain why. It's especially funny if you know that Coolio wasn't fond of "Amish Paradise" in real life, either.
