  • Coolio's cold, inscrutable expression during the film's final performance is generally read as him being angry about the desecration of "Gangsta's Paradise", as he was for quite some time in real life, leading to Al upgrading his personal policy to not only seek permission from the orignal artist, but to make sure he really gets it from the artist in question, not just their people. However, in the film's universe, this performance takes place several years before "Gangsta's Paradise" was released in real life, and "Amish Paradise" was written many years earlier by Al's father. And of course, the film goes out of its way to establish that "Beat It" is a parody of Al's original song "Eat It", not the other way around. Coolio's expression, therefore, is probably not one of disdain but of deviousness — he's likely plotting to write "Gangsta's Paradise" as a parody of "Amish". The reason "Gangsta's Paradise" came out several years later? Because Al dies mere minutes later, so it would be distasteful to release a parody of him right away.
