Funny / The Tricky Mod

Go To

When a rap battle game has a Crossover with a hyperviolent Flash series, they start clowning around.

NOTE: All spoilers on this page are unmarked. You Have Been Warned!

The Songs

  • When Tricky first appears out of the ground a la Madness Combat 5, it's only natural that it's accompanied by OMFG CLOWN.
  • Thanks to Memetic Mutation, it's complicated to not have a laugh and get distracted from the action in "Madness" thanks to the multiple memes that have spawned from Tricky's lyrics such as him driving a car or picturing the entire fight as a heated discussion.
  • The cutscene between "Improbable Outset" and "Madness" features Hank lounging in the back of a pickup truck before noticing Tricky and deciding to take a potshot at him on principle. When it cuts back to Tricky and Boyfriend, Tricky is just quietly winding up to bash Boyfriend's skull in while Boyfriend stares smugly, oblivious to the danger as he basks in having won the first round. In the brief moment you're given of Hank and Tricky sharing screentime, Tricky looks up after hearing the car coming and gets a nice view down the barrel of Hank's gun.
  • In the cutscene between "Madness" and "Hellclown", Girlfriend flashes Boyfriend a thumbs-up. Boyfriend responds with a confident v-sign. Girlfriend then jerks her thumb upwards a few times to signify that it was not a sign of encouragement, but a warning of the giant flaming monster about to crash down on him.
  • In "Hellclown", all of Tricky's animations have him roaring at Boyfriend in anger... except the left one, which has him Flipping the Bird, and to make matters worse, the first note he hits after he lets out his Skyward Scream is a left note.
    • Meanwhile, during the entire song, Hank is just in the background non-chalantly twirling a knife. The fact that he lets Boyfriend engage in a music battle instead of just sucker punching Tricky is amusing.
  • What does Boyfriend do after successfully defeating Tricky in Hellclown? Drop the mic.
  • Once Boyfriend defeats Demon Tricky on the mic, Hank attempts to defeat Demon Tricky in combat. He actually does pretty well, until he runs out of ammo, prompting a Beat and a Megaton Punch from Tricky that KOs him like they're in Super Smash Bros..
  • Boyfriend tries to fight Demon Tricky by throwing his mic at him. It doesn't even reach him.
  • Throughout the incredibly terrifying sequence where Tricky attacks Boyfriend, Girlfriend remains completely unfazed and simply keeps bopping to the beat. Even after getting launched in the air, her speakers happen to land in exactly the right positions!
  • After Demon Tricky disappears, Boyfriend lets out one last beep before face-planting with the same sound as the blue-balled game over screen.
  • The Stinger shows The Auditor watching Tricky's disappearance from his desk... eliciting a mildly-annoyed "WTF?" expression from him after his terminal gets shut down.
  • While "Expurgation" is a brutal and pretty scary level, it has a few things that can illicit a chuckle out of the player.
    • At one point, Tricky says "Tiky".
    • One moment of the song has Tricky and Boyfriend sing a few notes from Entry of the Gladiators (the definitive clown and circus music).
    • One of the many pieces of text that appears next to Tricky is him calling Boyfriend a midget in the middle of his Villainous Breakdown.

Other

  • If you thought the Couch Gag from the original game was over the top, here it is an Overly Long Gag with a bunch of nonsensical quotes and credits that build up until the beatdrop which the intro screen actually lampshades mere seconds before it happens.
  • The main menu has a revolving cast of characters who will show up on it, much like the original Project Nexus title screen. A few of them aren't quite as imposing, such as Deimos leaning on the border of the screen out of boredom, Sanford pointing excitedly as he did when he and Deimos picked out their clothes, and The Boyfriend standing there almost catatonic from what the mod's put him through, but still bopping his head to the beat of the menu music. Rarer still is a hidden character; A crewmate from Among Us who will sit there seemingly motionless, then shake their head and block a menu element you're trying to interact with. If this gets annoying at any point, clicking on the crewmate will kill them and let you pick things freely.
  • If you beat all the songs included in Version 2, you gain a "Tiny Desk Tricky" that sits there, seething impotently at the fact that you beat everything he threw at you. If you click on him, he'll flinch and then tell you to go away. But sometimes, in reference to the Madness Accelerant flash game, he meows like a kitten.
