Funny / The Legend of Korra: Ruins of the Empire

Go To

The Earth Empire is currently crumbling, but that doesn't mean there can't be levity in between.

Part One

  • Wu is getting too nervous when trying to make his speech about having a democracy over a monarchy, and Mako suggests he just "be himself". Unfortunately, this means Wu starts breaking out into his horrible singing when pressed too hard, causing Mako to facepalm off screen.
Korra: You did tell him to be himself.
Mako: This is not what I meant.
  • Yin remains ever the royalty fan.
Wu: [The monarchy's abolition] is almost upon us.
Yin: Boo! Long live the monarchy!
  • Mako lampshading about Bolin declaring that he finally has found his calling.
Mako: Yeah, we'll see. That's what you said about pro-bending. And acting. And working for Kuvira. And being a cop.
Bolin: (aghast) Are you suggesting that I'm fickle?
Mako: I'm saying you have an aversion to commitment.
  • Korra tells the gang that she met with Kuvira and that it might be a good idea to release her temporarily if it will help stop her troops. Everyone goes around with legitimate reasons for why they shouldn't trust Kuvira, except one.
Bolin: But Kuvira's the worst. She threatened my life! More than once!
Mako: I almost lost my arm taking out her mecha-giant's engine.
Zhu Li: She nearly destroyed republic city.
Asami: She was our enemy. She killed my father.
Wu: And let's not forget how she ruined my coronation! (Everyone glares at him) Sorry... I probably should have aired my grievance first.
  • Korra telling Wu they were leaving the governor's office because it was starting to stink in there, referring to how the election candidates were lackluster, and referencing Wu's remark about "the sweet smell of democracy". Wu then apologizes, saying he tooted.
  • While also a mark of her Character Development, Korra reprimanding Kuvira for nearly starting a fight with Guan's entire army, considering her own Leeroy Jenkins tendencies in the past.
  • Korra's idea for who would be the perfect candidate to run for governor? Toph, of course!

Part Two

  • While there is serious Mood Whiplash, Wu's troubles in the swamp begin when he needs to go to the bathroom. Again.
    • Also, he gets self-conscious about Naga watching him.
  • Toph hiding from Korra and Wu, and giving Korra all kinds of hell for insisting on finding her. The whole scene with Korra convincing Toph to run for office, going so far as to turn her own words against her, is hilarious.
Toph: Curse you and your Avatar powers.

Part Three

  • Korra informing Zhu Li of the brainwashing prompts such a Big "WHAT?!" Korra is forced to hold the phone well away from her face, and naturally Toph has input:
  • The moment when Su unintentionally interrupts Korra and Asami when they're in a bedroom together. Upon hearing her knocking on the door, Korra - who's sitting on the bed and holding Asami's hand - gives a voiced You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!, and then goes to ask who's there with an expression that can best be summed up as "Go to hell, whoever you are."
