Funny / The Dark Tower (2017)

Go To

  • Before Jake and Roland confront Walter, they head off to a gun store in New York, where they allow the owner to believe he's being robbed.
  • Earlier in the film, Roland asks if Jake's world has guns and bullets. Jake, coming from the land of 2nd Amendment Rights, just smiles and says Roland will like Keystone Earth.
  • After defeating Walter and preventing the fall of the Tower, Jake buys Roland a hot dog. Naturally, Roland thinks it's made from actual dogs and mutters "savages", but has a bite anyway. He likes it, then asks "What breed?"
    • This is especially funny to fans of the books, where hotdogs are seemingly the one 'Earth' food that Roland DOESN'T like.
      • The movie got his surprise at and liking of sugary soda accurate though.
  • At one point Roland encounters a pair of hookers while riding a bus in New York. After they hit on him, he informs them that they have both forgotten the faces of their fathers. Even out of context, they're insulted.
    • After this, Jake gently suggests that Roland not talk to anyone in New York to be safe.
  • In a way, it's a touch funny to see Walter casually cooking chicken in the kitchen when Jake's mother and step-father return home.
  • The portal to Keystone Earth that Jake and Roland use pops them out in the kitchen of a restaurant, and Jake has to quickly stop Roland from shooting one of the confused and frightened chefs who was holding a knife.
  • The scene of Jake taking Roland to a modern hospital for treatment is hilarious. First, Jake stuffs Roland's guns into a plastic bag to hide them -much to Roland's dismay. Then he claims that Roland was injured in a costume party, to explain his strange style of dress. When the doctor arrived, she tells Roland that he has the entire alphabet of hepatitis as well as radiation poisoning. This last part makes her suspicious enough to ask if Roland has been overseas recently. At Jake's instruction, Roland says he hasn't in the most suspicious way possible and then gets so fed up by the entire experience that he just stands up, hands the doctor a gold coin as payment, walks out of the room while yelling at Jake to bring his guns. It's a wonder they weren't arrested!
    • Jake gives Roland instructions on how to answer the doctor's questions by silently nodding yes or no, and Roland looking over the doctor's shoulder. There's something funny about a grown, badass Gunslinger having to take instruction from a young kid on how to manage a simple social interaction.
    • In an amusing reference to the book character, Oy, while in the hospital, Roland watches a commercial involving talking raccoons, and not knowing that it's fiction asks Jake if animals in his world can still talk. Jake answers that it's just a commercial before, confused, asking what Roland meant by 'still'.
