As a homage to the often cheesy and humorous Showa era of giant monster movies, there was bound to be some giggle-worthy moments in this story.

Unmarked Spoilers Ahead!

Volume 1

  • The line at the end of the copyright page:
No giant monsters were harmed in the making of this book.
  • The Mayor of Generiton thinking that Dr. Andrews has come to investigate Hollow Mountain, and shaking the hand...of Dr. Lerna. His shift from excitement to disappointment when he realizes this is palpable.
  • When Collins confronts Lerna as to why Tyrantis escorted her back to him, Lerna goes at length about how Dr. Yamane theorized about animal intelligence. Collins has this to say.
Collins: What I'm getting from this is that you don't know what the hell is happening.
Lerna: Unfortunately, that would be correct.
  • The poor military officer having to put up with the crazy farmer claiming that alien mole-men took his cattle. He fantasizes about the man's many wrinkles in fact being fractures on a decaying surface waiting to fall apart.
  • Tyrantis interpreting a car flipping over upon seeing him as it playing dead. He also thinks that the tiny humans make huge hives (cities) because they must be Compensating for Something.
  • When Tyrantis waves his arms in front of the Terror as a friendly display, the rival Retrosaur believes that the intruder isn't right in the head, and hopes that he never experiences whatever made Tyrantis like that.
  • After getting beaten within an inch of his live by Tyranta, Tyrantis is less focused on how hurt he is and more on how he just met the most beautiful creature in the world.
  • Gwen tells Lerna how she thinks that if she were to ever snoop around the studios she works at, she'd find the room where they keep all the 9-year olds who apparently write her films.
  • Eric repeatedly thinking that aliens are behind the weird stuff they see. Henry especially tires of it.
Henry: It's not aliens, Eric. It's never going to be aliens.
    • It hits its peak when the Reptodites take them.
Eric: Hey so...are these guys aliens?
Henry: Dammit, Eric, they're not aliens, nothing is an alien! Aliens aren't a thing that's happening!
  • Gorgolisk getting rammed by Tyrantis, completely unaware that he's just looking for a friendly spar. The big lug for his part completely misinterprets her very obvious threat display as an invitation to fight.
    • During the fight, he jumps over her thrashing coils like they're a jump rope. When he trips, he ends up drinking saltwater, and makes a mental note to never do that again no matter how enticing it looks.
    • Gorgolisk getting increasingly irritated at how Tyrantis just won't get the message that she doesn't want to fight.
  • Apparently, Lerna's command when she and her friends get caught in the fight between Tyrantis, Gorgolisk, and Mothmanud would be one they remember for the rest of their lives. What is it?
    Cheese it!
  • When scrambling for a name for Mothmanud, Gwen suggests Mothra, but he thinks it's too simple. Lerna brings up the actual name in frustration, despite how clunky Henry thinks its sounds.
  • After Eric manages to drive everyone away from the battlefield, they all think they're safe...and then Gorgolisk accidentally sends them flying with a flick of her tail. Tyrantis notices, and manages to catch it in the same way a kid might get a stray baseball during a big game.
  • Before the group sets off on the Ahab for the first time, Captain Old Man MacCready declares that it's going to be smooth sailing. Cue raging thunderstorm.
  • Bobo desperately trying to get Tyrantis not to enter the jungles of Green Hell by pantomiming with her smaller forelegs what lies in store for him, complete with comical sounds. He just pats her and pounds his chest as if to say "that's nice but I'm tough".
  • Before she's cut off, Gwen states that Crustakra's name makes the beast sound like a crusty crab.
  • Gwen and Henry aren't impressed by how plain and drab Dr. Murnau's base looks on the outside, the former calling it a warehouse's ugly stunted brother.
  • Clark and Dr. Praetorius engaging in some brief Snark-to-Snark Combat when MechaTyrantis almost gets its weapons activated by Ludlow.
Dr. Praetorius: It bodes well for the fully mechanized model.
Clark: It doesn't bode well if we get atomized.
Dr. Praetorius: I'm sorry, I thought we worked in Area 51 and were used to taking risks with dangerous technology.
(Clark proceeds to ball his fist in frustration)
  • Gwen bluntly stating that Tricerak's getting hammered every time he eats intoxicating soma berries.
  • Upon seeing how eager Tyrantor is to explore the world around him, Tyrantis puts him down, and the tyke instantly speeds off before he even knows it. Welcome to parenthood, big guy.
  • Gorgolisk knocking Clark on his ass with a flick of her tongue.

Volume 2

  • While being attacked by Old Meg on the Ahab, Henry wonders if they should have brought a bigger boat.
  • Henry having to be told by Perry that The Thunder Lizards isn't some kind of Retrosaur, but a rock band. Later, Henry has to tell this to Lerna when she makes the same comparison.
  • Kutulusca, a Giant Squid kaiju, treating the boats and buildings around it like toys, casually tossing a few boats over its shoulder, dismantling cars, and probing an office building.
  • Henry repeatedly getting bummed over not naming any Japanese kaiju. He instantly goes for naming Karamtor when he gets the chance.
  • Tyrantis and his fellow kaiju managing to pummel Karamtor with a bunch of boulders Burodon made. The irony of rocks being more effective than weapons of war isn't lost on Perry.
  • Karamtor squeezing Tyrantis in an effort to make him breathe more fire, which she enjoys. Failing that, she tries slapping him before just jamming her arm into his throat. It gets her that fire, but gets her arm blown up in the process.
  • Gwen confessing her feelings of being The Load to Lerna start out sad...but then she ends it by saying that she's not "worthy of her grace". Both are left dumbfounded at how corny and stupid that line sounds. This isn't a mistake either. It's very clearly a jab at the notoriously awful bowdlerization of Shinji and Kaworu's relationship's homoerotic undertones from the Netflix version of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
  • Ian Grant constantly butting into conversations by introducing himself over and over, as if that was the most important thing. Likewise, him frequently correcting everyone on the actual name of MechaTyrantis (Thunderchild Mark 1)...and then almost stating the supposedly incorrect title near the end of the part.
  • Gorale. Tragic the circumstances of his birth may be, you can't help but laugh at how he's basically a baleen whale flopping about with the lower legs of an ape. This is what happens when someone takes the Japanese meaning of Gojira (gorilla whale) a bit too seriously...
  • When Ludmilla is informed how MechaTyrantis nearly killed his organic predecessor, she playfully scolds "Bad mecha!" at the cyborg, and jokingly assumes that kaiju just don't like capitalists.
  • General Sherman endlessly pronouncing robot as Ro-bit, much to Dr. Praetorius' irritation.
  • Once again, Bobo tries and fails to dissuade Tyrantis from going headlong into danger. He just raises an eyebrow as if to say "hasn't stopped me in the past, haha".
  • Dr. Praetorius' obvious disgust at naming Bobo Asset Arachne, especially when Henry blurts out how unoriginal that is. It's one of the few things that causes a noticable chip in his cold exterior.
  • Dr. Praetorius calling the newly discovered deoxyribonucleic acid DORNA. Herny corrects him that it should be something catchier, like DNA. Praetorius agrees while Lerna scolds Henry for making nice with the same guy who helped make a clone of her.
  • Tyrantis being completely gobsmacked by the sight of Minerva. For a moment, he thinks that humans actually just start small and grow huge after a short period.
  • Kraydi shows up to the battle with Promythigor and, with all of his power, he pulls a Mass Teleportation for all of the monsters to Typhon Island...'s skyline. In about half a second, every kaiju goes from being confused to shrieking in terror as they plummet downwards. Most of them manage to find ways to not fall so quickly, but Tyrantis and Promythigor are still free-falling. The ape smacks face-first into a mountainside, tumbling down all the way to a cliff. When he gets the chance to recover, he fails to notice the moving rocks around him as Tyrantis rams into his back, causing him to faceplant into the ground again.
  • Ahuul cowering at the roar of Tyranta, and clinging on to Tyrantis for protection, earning him a confused look from his former nemesis.
  • Gwen knowingly leaving Lerna to talk with Minerva, despite the former's objections.
  • When Kemlasulla has Atomoton temporarily pinned, he starts to dance on his back, striking funny poses while doing so.
  • Gorgolisk watching Crocogon get chased by Sombarvot before realizing that he's changing course for where she is. Soon, both monsters are fleeing for their lives from the rampaging alien.
  • After their fight, Tyrantis moves his arms in a circular motion like he does with most kaiju in front of Kemlasulla. Due to the alien's silly nature, they end up bouncing up and down while moving their arms faster and faster, until it looks like they're both dancing. They eventually collapse from exhaustion.
  • Dr. Rockwell attempting to communicate with the Beyonder Liutenant Gray for the first time...with the classic Klaatu Barada Nikto line, prompting the alien to tell him that he can speak English. Rockwell meekly asks if he at least pronounced it right.
  • Ludmilla charging into the jungle to fight Frightron with Herakoshchei...only to find that it was taken out in record time by Tyranta and Tricerak.
  • General Sherman and Arnie's exaggerated reactions to seeing Grossk the Reptodite, the latter even screaming shrilly at the sight.
  • During the final battle, Gorale is revealed to be an absolute powerhouse, flying in the sky and firing wildly at the Mothmanuds with his eye beams. It comes completely out of nowhere, and it's safe to say that the mech pilots and Minerva are completely stunned when they see it.
