• The American manual of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 warns of the dangers of going too fast, refering to certain bugs/quirks that result in trapping the player as "Dr. Robotnik's diabolical speed traps". Yes. It's one of the most amusing ways of reinforcing the Doctor's character while handwaving some of the, ah, technical difficulties that arise from Sonic actually being fast enough to literally run headlong into minor gamebreaking bugs.
• Just anytime Knuckles traps Sonic and Tails and laughs about it.
  • Besides that one time that he tried to stop Sonic from reaching the Death Egg at Launch Base — only for Eggman to activate its thrusters, which launches Knuckles straight into the waters below. Not chuckling now, eh?
• When you enter Mushroom Hill Zone after finishing Launch Base, Sonic and Tails or just Tails fly in and land. Knuckles, on the other hand, since he just got flung off of an exploding Launch Base pipe, falls from the sky, and his expression is hilarious.
• The boss of Flying Battery Zone Act 1 is Gapsule, which looks like an animal capsule machine, the kind you traditionally bust open at the end of the final act of every Zone in the Genesis games, but which turns out to be an enemy with mace arms. You defeat it by tricking it into smacking itself with its arms several times. If you're Super or Hyper, however, it's as easy as taking your hands off of the controller and letting Capsule beat itself to death.
• In Flying Battery Zone Act 2, apparently Eggman's idea of trying to stop the heroes is with a laser that's not only very sluggish at aiming, but also ends up destroying the entire flying fortress. The expression on his face after he fires the last shot really sells it.
  • Not only that, but it's a rebuild of the boss from Wing Fortress in Sonic 2: Eggman carefully evaluated its performance and removed its weaknesses, but he completely missed the fact that he was firing a laser cannon at the inside of his own ship.
• Tails (as controlled by the CPU in the absence of a second player) has primitive AI, which frequently gets in the way of self preservation, such as in scenes like the sprint to get away from the bomber ship at the end of Angel Island Act 2. He'll get bombed over and over while Sonic outruns the bombs so long as the player holds right for dear life. But he's functionally immortal, so don't worry about it.
