Derf's describing Dahmer's appearance, walk, etc. while showing the guy, himself and others in gym class. During this narration, we see the students picking who they want on their team for some sort of game/exercise. One guy off-panel goes, "Uh...Backderf, I guess...".
Some aspects of Derf's oddly-Robert Crumb-esque illustrations may come off as a bit humorous (on purpose or inadvertently) at times note which also gives everyone a case of Adaptational Ugliness...Like Derf's goofy pre-breakfast snow-fight◊ note Mainly the guy in the second panel going "Ha! Ha!" followed by his own dog◊ with this very◊ INTENSE expression note It wants French Toast and "snausages", darnit! Derf obliges..
Among the "Dahmer Fan Club's" pranks was submitting an imaginary character (based on a guy who owned a local pizza shop) as a write-in candidate◊ called "Al Rebo"◊. Cartoon-Jeffrey Dahmer would act as "Celebrity Spokesman" for "Rebo" and Jeff shouting "REBOOOO!" would be a bit of a Memetic Mutation at Revere High. "Al Rebo" got more votes from the student body than the actual real candidates! Heck; "Celebrity Spokesman, Jeffrey Dahmer" is plenty darkly ludicrous on it's own.
When Derf's wife calls him at the end when the story breaks, she only reveals that the killer was from Derf's graduating class. His first guess at who turned out to be a serial killer was Figg. Dahmer was his second guess.
The Movie
Apparently poor Mr. Burlman had a heck of a time working for the ever-erratic Ms. Joyce Dahmer because all that was accomplished was a frilly pink ottoman (which Derf happily tries out in one scene◊ in The Movie).
The discussion at the fishing hole about Cindy Zlatka's tragic suicide has been replaced with a silly anecdote involving some idiot who attempted to masturbate with a vacuum cleaner.
When Dahmer first meets Lloyd Figg...
Lloyd: (goes on spiel of the different drugs he's selling, Jeff pulls out a folded unused trash bag from his pocket...) "What's with the bag?"
Jeff: "Uh...I've been picking up roadkill but I've been meaning to quit."
Lloyd: "I can get you roadkill, man. Stick with me." (runs off).
The newly-minted "Dahmer Fan Club" pulls their first act of immature teen boy stupidity...they all...including Dahmer...do that "pulling a Dahmer" bit in a manner so exaggerated that they look more like hyperactive, rampaging baboons who drank waaaay too much coffee and bug some "popular" girls they could never woo. Jeff gets so into it that he blasts out of the school EXIT to the outdoors!
The montage of getting Dahmer to pose in class photos for clubs he didn't belong to. At one point; Derf, with a hearty smile, puts his arm around Jeff◊ as the picture is taken.
The English teacher teacher is practically comatose◊ and so stuck in deep sleep that he doesn't notice stuff like Jeff drawing Penny's bodily outline on the floor. You just KNOW that poor teacher is not enthused about his job. One may also derive humor in the fact that he has the kids read Machiavelli'sThe Prince.
Derf's drawing of Jeffrey as King Kong climbing◊ the Washington Monument...complete with phallic jokes.
Though it's a dark moment with Real LifeForeshadowing, the look the black◊ student gives Jeffrey when Jeff asks about the innards between black & white people takes the cake.
YMMV: Jeff's mom in The Movie can be somewhat unintentionally funny due to sheer Narm.
Joyce: "New house rule! We eat our mistakes!"
Her slapping Lionel on the head with some documents◊ and his glasses going askew is unintentionally a bit silly-looking (even if the scene is dead serious).
Also qualifies as a bit of Nightmare Fuel; Upon finishing an intense scene at the old Dahmer house note Likely the bit where Jeff attempts to kill Derf, actor Alex Wolff basically went on a long, profane tirade that could be summed up as, "Man! Fuck Jeffrey Dahmer!"...then all the lights went out and the generator went kaput. Immediately; Wolff started getting super-apologetic to the alleged ghost of Jeffrey Dahmer so as not to incur Alleged-Ghost-Jeff's wrath. How Wolff cleaned up what he said when relaying the story at the San Diego Comic Con also counts.
