Trailers

  • When Sub-Zero freezes Scorpion's blood into a dagger, he pauses for a moment and turns it in his hand, seeming to evaluate it in a manner that could be interpreted as "Shit, that worked!" or "Hmm... yeah, this'll do."
  • The climax of the trailer, where Shang Tsung shouts "FINISH THEM!" followed by a rapid-fire montage of absolutely brutal violence. It hits the exact right spot of awesome and amusing, capped with Kano holding a heart in his hand, snarking "Kano Wins." He then looks at the heart in his hand and calls it "you fucking beauty."

Film

  • Despite his Token Evil Teammate status, Kano is a fountain of comedy with his snark and stunts, bringing humor and levity to an overly grim and edgy action film.
    • Kano calls Kung Lao's hat a sombrero, and threatens to shove it up his ass until he speaks Spanish.
    • At Raiden's temple, an amulet catches Kano's eye and he tries to steal it. Bonus points for that amulet belonging to Shinnok.
      • Relatedly, Liu Kang gives a speech full of dramatic import about how they will have to train, prepare, steel themselves, then faces Kano and says, in the same utterly serious tone, "Put that back." Kano marvelously fails to act innocent. "Put what back?"
    • During the fight against Reptile, Sonya starts throwing knives at it. Then she grabs Kano's knife and throws it...where it lands right in Kano's leg! His reaction helps sell it.
Kano: The FUCK was that?! And with MY knife, too!
      • Him bringing up that it was his knife makes it seem like he's more pissed that Sonya stabbed him with his own weapon more than the fact that she stabbed him.
      • After the fight, Kano brings up the many reasons he isn't going to help them, one of which being that Sonya threw his knife into his leg on purpose. Sonya's "fair enough" reaction indicates that, yes, that knife throw to his leg was 100% intentional.
    • Sonya offers Kano two million dollars to bring her and Cole to Lord Raiden's temple. He indicates the hovel she's been living in, saying there's no way she has two million dollars living in that "shit hole." She tells him not to insult it, that she's been living there all her life. He counters that he'll do it for three million and she accepts, after which he tells her that he'll kill her if she's lying. Cole then asks her incredulously if she's really going to pay him three million dollars.
Sonya: Fuck no. I live in this shit hole. You think I got three million dollars?
    • Shortly after killing Reptile, Kano draws a little picture of it, saying he's working on a graphic novel. Not only that, he's actually not that bad.
    • Right before Reptile arrives, Cole asks Sonya about her mark; she replies she doesn't have one. Kano promptly goes "wah-wah" from across the room.
    • When Liu Kang first meets our heroes, he blasts Kano with a fireball (since Kano was advancing on him with his Bowie knife), but makes it clear that he is not their enemy. When Kano gets up, he's far too distracted by the fact Liu Kang shot a fireball out of his hands to even care that that fireball was aimed at him.
    • When Liu Kang offers to lead the trio to the temple, he places his hands on Sonya's and Kano's shoulders, ostensibly as a comforting gesture, but it just confuses Kano.
      Kano: ...the fuck?
    • When Shang Tsung first tries to attack the heroes at the temple fails, he and Raiden trade barbs, all while Kano watches while munching away at some peanuts.
    • During training, Liu sweep-kicks Kano. Kano gets up. Liu sweeps him again. Kano dares him to do it again. Liu fakes Kano into jumping to dodge a third sweep, and then promptly sweeps him again as soon as Kano lands. Even more, Kano realizes he's gonna get swept the last time as he utters "Aw, fuck." as he lands.
      • Which is itself a reference to how Mortal Kombat players frequently spam their leg attacks.
    • Liu Kang and Kung Lao help Kano unlock his super powers - by repeatedly insulting him and refusing to give him an egg roll.
    • Kano also assumes nicknamer duties, calling Liu Kang "Magic Mike", Sonya "Blondie", Cole "pretty boy" and Raiden "Gandalf".
    • Raiden crudely dismisses new Champion Cole as not prepared, mentally or physically, and Sonya as not even being a Champion, ignoring Kano completely. When Kano makes a smartass remark, calling Raiden Gandalf and asking what his fortune cookie says, Raiden blasts him with lightning in an Offhand Backhand, resulting in Kano. . . not being aware of the rest of Raiden's exposition.
Kano: (popping into frame after Raiden finishes his speech) Right, what'd I miss?
    • Instead of getting killed in a big, cinematic way, Kano dies when Sonya stabs him in the face with a lawn gnome. The same one he spat on.
  • During Cole's training, Liu Kang suggests pain could get Cole's Arcana triggered. Meaning having Kano punch him until he's on the ground.
Liu: Focus on the pain, Cole.
Cole: I'm focusing, nothing's happening! It just hurts!
Kano: Aw, stick with it! *punches him again*
    Liu: Again.
Kano: *punches him again* Yeah, you're right, nothing's happening.
  • Cole briefly lampshading the franchise's trademark Xtreme Kool Letterz.
Sonya: Something known as "Mortal Kombat."
Cole: Did you make that last part up? It just kinda sounds like you made it up. And look, they spelled it wrong.
    • The fact that Cole thought Sonya was bullshitting him about the Mortal Kombat tournament; he sees Sub-Zero trying to kill him and his family with ice, but decides that a conspiracy about the world's best fighters duking it out is too much for him to believe.
  • During Hanzo and Bi-Han's fight, Hanzo's Groin Attack on Bi-Han briefly halts the music.
    • Before that, Hanzo finds Bi-Han after the latter killed his family and Bi-Han then dramatically boasts (in Chinese) that Shirai Ryu has been wiped out by his hand. However, Hanzo, who's Japanese, says in his own language that he did not understand anything Bi-Han just said.
  • Raiden spends most of the movie as one of the more serious characters, mostly delivering exposition and enforcing tournament rules. Then he banishes Shang Tsung back to Outworld at the end:
    Raiden: He talks too much.
  • Though he's also being a murderous, cheating bastard throughout, there's something genuinely hilarious about how openly Shang Tsung is willing to flout the rules of Mortal Kombat. Though he's always been known for being an underhanded snake, this time around he's walking around and declaring outright that he's absolutely not interested in playing fair before waltzing into Raiden's own temple and inviting his goons to loot the place after they kill everyone. And his reasons for acting so brazenly: The Gods Must Be Lazy. Refuge in Audacity doesn't even begin to describe it.

Meta

  • There's this awesomely funny video of the Mortal Kombat cast reacting to a makeshift tournament from Mortal Kombat 11 with all of the cast reacting to their characters fighting each other, sans Lewis Tan. Their reactions to their characters' appearances in this game are just hilarious, especially Josh Lawson (Kano) and Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade). The ultimate winner is Sonya.
    [seeing how muscular Game!Kano is]
Josh: Damn! I wish I looked like that!
    Jessica: Kano's hot!

    [Sonya is beating up Kano]
    Josh: Is Kano f*cking drunk?
Jessica: Those muscles are all for show, you can't do sh*t.

    [after Sonya and Kano fight]
Josh: I just wanna make it clear that if your vision of Kano is playing those games, the physical depiction of Kano, you should be lowering your expectations just a little bit.
