Lethal Company is praised for how well it balances its scary gameplay and inherent comedy the gameplay has. On paper, absolutely nothing about going through abandoned moons and buildings where every living thing in it would love nothing more than to end your life should be considered funny. That being said, part of the fanbase argues that the game has even more comedic moments than it does horror, thanks to the shenanigans that inevitably ensue with groups of friends attempting to tackle challenges in very unconventional ways.

  • Seeing the difference between the way the company conducts itself with hiring and speaking to their employees and the work they make their employees do. This even extends to the game over sequence, where the company calls the act of firing failed employees into space a "disciplinary process."
  • Playing alone is vastly different from playing with other people. Without any companions, Lethal Company is comparable to similar horror games such as Phasmophobia or It Steals. With friends, which is the style that earns the game the most praise, the added teamwork and voice chat makes the game's atmosphere feel more like Scooby-Doo.
  • The game uses proximity voice chat for in-game communication between players. While it is a core part of the game's immersion, it also contributes to comedic moments between teammates. Having friends be able to converse with each other about the possible monsters they might encounter, wonder about missing and potentially dead teammates, and even share scares and screams together as teams run away from monstrosities roaming through the corridors makes it no mystery why so many clips of the game exist featuring comedic timing and portraying Death as Comedy exist online.
  • Whenever someone dies in the team, their voice chat functions are disabled immediately when the final blow is dealt. This leads to a very common occurrence where the unfortunate player is Killed Mid-Sentence or mid-scream. While this usually happens thanks to the monsters, it can also be caused by...
    • Someone falling into a bottomless pit or off the map, usually due to missing a jump or general unawareness.
    • Stepping on a landmine, which happens a lot. This goes double for new players that don't know to keep an eye out for them. When stepping on one, it usually gives players just enough time to realize what happened and let out an "Oh shi-" before the explosion.
    • Getting struck by lightning. When it's raining, unaware players may not realize when any metal items in their hands are about to cause a lightning strikenote . However, most lightning strikes happen randomly, and there is always a very small chance that lightning will strike where a player is standing by complete chance, as if Zeus got bored and decided to smite a team member for fun.
  • Being face-to-face with one of the dangerous creatures inhabiting the moons is never a fun experience. Playing with a friend and seeing or hearing them get chased by the same monsters can be morbidly funny by itself.
  • The tentacled terror inside the Company walls is, in a rather mundane way, easily annoyed by sound. It's common to see new players get impatient when it doesn't answer the counter bell immediately and start mashing the bell, unaware that they're basically inviting themselves for a sudden and shocking death until it's too late. Its irate temper is so sensitive that it'll understandably lash out if someone is intentionally being annoying with air horns nearby, or in especially bad incidents, throttle and crush employees for just casually speaking near it if it's not in the mood to hear them.
  • Very rarely, the Coil-Head can glitch and completely forget the players exist, causing it to enter its default state; running around the area at full sprint. Seeing it zoom around harmlessly can be incredibly funny.
  • An Old Bird attacking can be a terrifying sight to behold when it spots you. Multiple Old Birds attacking on the other hand, is so horrifying it loops back to hilarious, creating an utterly ridiculous scene of an army of giant robots blasting the whole goddamn area just to obliterate some schmuck who was just gathering scrap.
  • Tulip Snakes "attack" by latching onto an employee and then attempting to fly away with them, clearly struggling as they frantically flap their wings. Aside from the ridiculousness and odd adorableness of seeing them on an employee (the first to get on will always be a Head Pet), if two or more latch on they will actually carry the employee into the air as if they were attached to a bunch of cartoon balloons.
    • Unlike Snare Fleas, Tulip Snakes can be brought inside the facility and won't die. This can seem like a good idea since the facility tends to have low ceilings. That is, of course, until you realize there's a giant fan at the entrance.
  • The Butlers may be scary and constantly plotting murder, but they clearly aren't the best at covering up; another player walking in on a Butler with his knife out causes the Butler to hurriedly stash it and go back to sweeping as if he never stopped.
  • TZP Inhalants gradually increase the proximity voice chat's pitch of the user who uses more of it. If someone on your team didn't know better and starts to abuse the item, hilarity will soon ensue.
