  • The tongue-in-cheek humor of the Tiger Dojo and its sister shows is a nice breather after the completion of major story arcs. The fact that all of the characters are leaning heavily against the fourth wall and the narrator is getting in on the action just makes it better.
  • Ilya in Chapter 3.1 talking down to Kibaou. Note the statement below and her normal body size compared to his.
Ilya: Shirou, boost me up so I can pat his head and comfort him.
  • Kirito's internal commentary on the terrible helmet Ilya makes Shirou wear, culminating in the aftermath of the first boss.
With an expression that was ten, no, twenty times more dignified than Kirito thought would be possible in that circumstance, Shirou reequipped the [Stupid Helmet].
  • Chapter 4.4
    • Ilya starts the chapter by warning Hexadecimal not to try and insert himself as another suitor for Shirou. Hexadecimal has to look around to make sure, yes, this is actually happening.
    • As the price of becoming her pupil, Hexi must get Asuna in a maid dress. He talks her down to a maid dress for Asuna (not her in it) and a butler suit and tuxedo for Shirou. Asuna's protests are summarily ignored.
  • In Chapter 5.1, Griselda and Grimlock's first attempt at learning magecraft is from a Rincewind expy who has MAGUSS on his hat. When the luggage stalks them, Grimlock declares it's time to leave.
  • Liz being tossed around like a sack of potatoes in Chapter 5.4.
  • In Chapter 6.2, Ilya acts like a Bratty Half-Pint when other people invite Shirou to join their guilds.
"Shirou!" Ilya was seriously pouting now, hands thrust down by her sides as she stood rigidly, "I don't like it when you tease me like this!" She had a tremulous, wide-eyed look as she stared at Shirou. Asuna thought she'd never looked more like a little girl than right now, reacting pitifully to getting teased.
With a sigh that was kind rather than exasperated, Shirou reached out in front of him and decisively tapped a menu selection.
"Hooray!" Ilya shouted, breaking forward as she half-ran and half-skipped to throw her arms around Shirou's neck and hug him.
  • Shirou being calm despite being trapped inside the [Bony Red Slime] when Asuna came to rescue him in 8:1.
She swam towards him, and waved with her hand. He looked up at her, and then back down at the monster, before looking back at her with a quizzical tilt of the head, asking what she was doing here just with the expression on his face. Asuna grunted. Shirou was far too calm in this situation.
  • In Chapter 8.3 Hexidecimal shamefacedly admits he married a Brawn Hilda-type NPC, so he could game the inventory system. One Snow remembers her as the one with the large... strength scores. Hexi only barely manages to stop the 2D waifu jokes...
    • Until Silica points out the NPC should have declined. Even more shamefacedly, Hexi admits to using magecraft to make the NPC agree. Ilya is torn between pride as a magus in their apprentice and concern as a woman. The other girls aren't as restrained and spend a while riffing on poor Hexi.
  • Diabel's reactions to whenever the [Fuumanin] vows their allegiance to him. It's getting to the point where he can't really tell them apart.
  • In Chapter 9.2 Ilya proudly reveals the "gattai" move she and Shirou have developed. Shirou is less than enthused that she interprets it as proof of their deep affections for one another. Then Kirito wants to try it out, despite Ilya's warnings against raising flags. And then he suggests Asuna gattai with Shirou as well.
Ilya: The Harem Route is even more forbidden.
  • The girls discussing/teasing each other about their romantic life, which ends with them gushing over Shirou/Diabel.
    • Later on when some Accidental Innuendo in a conversation between those two makes Liz think it's possible, Diabel notices and Trolls her by lacing even more innuendo into his phrasing. Shirou is completely oblivious.
    • Before Shirou will make a sword for Diabel, he requests they fight, so that he can figure out what Diabel really needs. Cut to a few minutes later, where Diabel is just sitting down, still stunned by how completely he got curb-stomped.
  • In 10.1 Liz and the others find themselves in the middle of a [Chain of Deals] quest. The example she and the others use to explain the concept to Asuna starts with, 'a guy needs spark plugs to fix his car, but the only person who has spark plugs will trade them for a widget, and the person with a widget...' and so forth, and so forth, and ends with 'TIME PARADOX!'. Fast forward several chapters later and the narration finds her in a seemingly serious discussion with Shirou:
Shirou: (confused) Wait. Was the quest to fix Merlin's car, then?
    Lizbeth: [sighs]
  • The 7F Boss is based on Tokiomi Tohsaka and is named [Omi The Fool]. Considering what happened to him, this is very fitting.
  • When Ilya gets the deed to a castle, she destroys the ruins and builds a new one that looks like a giant skull.
  • The Black Cats of the Full Moon come to Kirito's aid in 12.2 with living furniture. The sheer shock of it has him stunned.
And then an upright closet made of dark hardwood burst through the trees, rocking rapidly back and forth as it twisted to ambulate forward.
It took Kirito much longer to raise his sword in a guard than it should have.
    • Later on he's actually worried about sitting in a chair because the same guy made it and he was afraid it would eat him.
  • Kirito and Ilya silently agree to one day see Asuna become the cat-eared Meido [Asunyan].
  • Whenever Ilya and Liz are alone with each other, they go off on one another. It's telling that when Argo visits the latter's shop, Liz's getting ready to chuck a hammer at Ilya, who is standing on a table with her tongue sticking out.
  • Chapter 14.1
    • Kirito on Silica's improvement:
She didn't appear to realize it yet, but Silica was putting together a [Beast Mode] transformation every time she stacked another physical enhancement, and she was getting in the habit of solving every challenge by corralling an appropriate Familiar. Eventually she'd be sitting on an eight-legged firebreathing horse and waving her arm as a pack of horrors with electro-tentacles or big claws and far too many teeth fell on the enemy like a pile of bricks.
    • Kirito receives notice that his Chair+1 is done.
For an instant, Kirito forgot everything else, as he wondered with intense curiosity what his new chair would be like. Forget brooding on his inferiority, there was a magical chair with his name on it and Kirito fully intended to have a good sit.
    • Kirito remembers Ellis Bell, his NPC magecraft trainer, going on a long rant about Fate and numerology before awkwardly turning the lecture into a quiz "as if the writer had remembered there was supposed to be player interaction." Kirito also notes that he's a reasonably advanced NPC; he seems robotic, but he can respond well to most questions. Friendly reminder that's Kayaba, personally mentoring Kirito. He's so stiff he is mistaken for an NPC.
    • At the end of the chapter Kirito leaves the Black Cats and starts planning out how to improve himself... only to realize with some despair he forgot about his chair.
  • Chapter 14.4:
    • By now, Shirou one-shotting bosses has become so common that it's a widespread rumor whenever a dungeon gets cleared quickly.
    • Yolko ended up blasting Zolgen out of a window on reflex due to having a Primal Fear of bugs.
  • Chapter 15.3:
    • Kirito reveals that the Ether version of the popular [Heat Hawk] spell is called [Psy Duck].
    • When given three blades to hold by Shirou, Kirito holds one in each hand and the last in his mouth before imitating a certain three-sword style swordsman.
      "Thfee Thword Thyle, Onee-Geehlee!"
      ...
"You know," Kirito said, "It's actually super-embarrassing when you just look serious during a gag like that."
"That just means your soul doesn't burn hot enough." Shirou blandly replied.
Kirito blinked, before grinning. "Well at least you get these jokes. I tried it on Asuna-ojou-sama and she just asked me what I thought I was doing."
  • Chapter 16.1:
    • The ritual for summoning a demon involves a lengthy chant... which the UI displays, complete with a karaoke-style bouncing ball. XaXa feels it really kills the mood.
    • Laughing Coffin summons a demon and it promptly breaks free and leaves. Their reaction? Shrug their shoulders since it's really not their problem any longer.
  • Chapter 16.4:
    • Kirito is still spreading his "108 Skills of the Sixth Ranger" nonsense, and is amused that everyone seems to be taking it seriously. Shirou glares at him whenever he makes up some new "fact."
    • What was Kirito doing before he got the call about the children? Math homework. Ellis Bell won't teach him more [Numerology] until he passes a literal trigonometry test.
  • Chapter 17.1:
    • Kibau and Klein got into a competition for who could make the best ship for the new ocean floor. Kibau was excited when Klein's ship exploded, since it gave him the lead... cue Klein unveiling a rocket ship. The second one crashed, but the third worked perfectly and mapped almost ninety percent of the floor. Oh, and they named it [Boaty McBoatFace III].
    • Diabel isn't completely certain that the Moonlit Black Cats have what it takes to be Front Liners, but he has to admit he really likes the chair Keita made for him.
  • Chapter 17.3:
    • Rosalia describes Kuradeel's standard expression as being "really serious about something probably creepy, like taking upskirt pictures of girls."
    • No one in Illya's guild bothered getting good at boatmaking, so their "yacht" is apparently just two tiers up from the basic canoes. But they can still move at a decent clip because of Silica's giant sharks pulling them along.
  • Chapter 17.4:
    • After Klein's guild one-shots the [King Krab] boss, the entire Front Line decides to have a beach party. In no small part because of the boss's drops.
The Floor Boss who ruled over the 20th Floor, called [King Krab]. After being magnificently defeated by the wisdom of the [Fuurinkazan], the primary drop had been a literal ton of the mysterious food ingredient, [Krab Meat?] (The question mark was in the original).
    • It's mentioned that Kirito's swim trunks are, of course, all black. Meanwhile, Asuna's bikini is red (for the guild) with... black highlights. Kirito refuses to ask what the reasoning behind the color scheme is. He spends the entire party trying very hard to keep his eyes on her face.
