Since Gru and the Minions are involved, it's only natural that there's gonna be a few laughs made by this ride:
- During Gru's introduction speech, Edith pokes fun at how much of a Large Ham he is by donning an evil clown sock puppet, impersonating him. Naturally, among other shenanigans, Gru is annoyed by this and requests that the girls not talk for the rest of his video. As Gru continues, Edith pokes fun at him still by lip syncing the sock puppet with Gru's mouth. Gru's also pulled into a Finger-Forced Smile to top off the video.
Agnes: Come on, smile Gru!
Gru: (Wearing the forced smile) I hate smiling.
- The Minion-based gags that last throughout the entire thing (especially pre-ride) could be considered one big CMoF, but here's some highlights:
- One of the gags during the safety video is "If the number of lenses do not match the number of eyes you have, please see a lab assistant.", in which a cyclops minion attempts to properly wear some goggles that have one too many lenses on it, prompting him to cry. He is then met by another minion with about six lenses on his face, who gives him the goggles the former needs.
- The Failed Minion Transformation tests when Gru's talking about his Minionizer Ray.
Gru: At first there were a few minor snags.
(The Minions start to laugh at the Minionized test subjects, who are still carrying their human forms)
Gru: And then a few major snags, although I kinda like that guy.
(The screen switches to a minion whose eyes are much farther from their body, making him look like a cousin of a hammerhead)
Gru: And this guy.
(The screen then switches to a minion with a tiny head that leads to a ridiculously fat body)
Gru: Oh, I love that guy. That guy really knows how to party!
(The screen promptly switches to a minion resembling an elephant, who starts dancing as conga-like music starts playing.)
- What will happen in you put of the goggles early?
Gru: Don't on the goggles until you are told to do so, or this could happen. I'm not saying it will happen, but it could. And it will be funny. To me.
(The screen shows a scene involving two minions, one of them wearing the goggles. The goggle-wearing minion promptly bumps into a large bomb, stumbling over to the camera, bumping into it too, promptly stumbling into a button that drops a huge pile of bombs in him, followed by a much larger bomb.)
- The "in the event of a water landing" skit, which involves a minion being launched out of a huge pool of water that he was shoved into by a pair of ridiculously huge, well, flotation devices in his goggles, to the amusement of the one who shoved him in before a huge bombshell promptly falls onto his head, leaving only his arm.
- To ensure that nobody's bringing any germs to Gru's lab, he does a body scan as to make sure they're all safe. ("Don't worry, they're just high density lasers! They will not hurt... me, a bit") Of course, the scan fails, leading to this exchange:
Gru: Uh-oh, we have a problem. It appears that some of you have not showered in like a week! Gross! I'm not naming names... but it's those guys! (A screen shows a section of the queued audience) Lucky for you, I'm in a bit on a time-crush and I'm feeling generous, but you'd better shower after you get back to your hotel! And don't go right to the pool! [—(or volcano bay—)]
- After the body scan gag, Gru threatens to fire the fart gun of any if the riders back out of his training session. The scene goes as this:
Gru: So what will it be? Minions, or farts?
Edith: (Still holding the sock puppet, impersonating Gru) Minions or farts!
Gru: Ignore them. (Gru is met with a bunch of minions holding party cannons, Gru shooing them away)
Agnes: Don't be scared of Gru! He's just a big, bald, teddy bear!
Gru: Oh, no?? (Gru launches the gun, the nozzle over by the screen shooting out a blast of fart gas)
Edith: Hey, it smells like bananas! (Some minions proceed to lick at the glass, trying to get at the theoretical banana)
- The giant fly-swatters.
Agnes: Look out, Minions! Don't get fly-swatted!
- The Minion zapped with the laser.
Agnes: HE'S SO FLUFFY!!!
- The part when the Minions are punched off the course by a boxing glove.
- The Minions getting distracted by a banana during the teamwork skills part.
Edith: Resist the banana!
- Not even Gru is immune to the slapstick his minions endure, especially when he's launched into your pod(s) at one point.
- As Gru congratulates the audience for passing the course, telling them something alone the lines of "Welcome to your new life!", the Minionizer Ray is knocked into view that fires at the audience, turning them back into humans once again. Gru's reaction is what sells the scene.
Gru: Aw man, they're human again. (The doors close) Bring in the next group!!!
