General

  • In this spinoff, the humans and the Titans coexist with each other. While the Titans are still antagonistic towards the humans for the most part, they do not eat the humans here. Instead, they act like big bullies towards the humans, vandalizing the walls and stealing their lunches. The Titans have their own lives and, in one instance in the manga, one Titan receives an allowance from its kindly grandmother Titan.
  • Humans and Titans going to school together.
  • There are several running gags present:
    • In the anime, Oluo bites his tongue so often that it is a wonder that he has not bled out yet.
    • Ymir suggesting that she and Krista get married.
    • Reiner and Ymir competing for Krista's affection.
    • Armin is almost never seen without his futon. Many jokes and gags involve his futon.
    • In the anime, whenever anything shocking befalls Eren and the gang, everyone lets out a loud, collective "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTT?!?!?!" Everyone except Mikasa.
  • Armin's name tag is spelled using a combination of Katakana and Hiragana (アルミん).
  • Hanji keeps the Sawney and Bean Titans as pets. In episode 10 of the anime, she and Levi are even seen giving Sawney a walk, complete with a pet collar. It is shown that Sawney and Bean are not as intelligent as the other Titans in this spinoff, with them walking on all fours, being unable to speak the Titan language, and being the only Titans who try to bite at any human at all.
  • Most of the time the Levi Squad in onscreen, Gunther is seen reading the Attack on Titan manga, while Eld is playing the DS video game.

Anime

    Episode 1
  • The entire Crash-Into Hello sequence in the beginning, introducing the main characters. Eren and Mikasa rush to school on their first day, crashing into various members of the cast along the way. He first crashes into Krista, who drops her toast. Eren makes it up by giving her a small amount of money not enough to really buy anything. Eren then crashes into Sasha, whose watermelon is shattered. Then he crashes into Jean, who they nonchalantly leave wayside and both he and Mikasa step on him, with Jean giving a lustful smile as Mikasa steps over him. Mikasa then fantasizes about crashing into Eren, so she zooms ahead at high speed and attempt to cut him off. Eren was about to crash into Connie before Mikasa intercepts Eren, hitting him so hard he gets launched an enormous distance and lands with a spectacular explosion in front of the new junior high school's giant walls, which look similar to the outer Wall Maria in the original anime. Off in the distance, everyone that Eren crashed into is running towards him, ranting and irate.
  • Connie's first line is literally him singing, "Coo, coo, coo, that's what pidgeons say." while skipping.
  • The reenactment of the training camp scene with Keith Shadis as the homeroom teacher, complete with a spoof of the memetic interaction between Shadis and Sasha.
  • The Titans' introduction. Like in the original anime, the Colossal Titan makes its usual appearance in a flash of lightning behind the Wall during the welcoming ceremony. It breaches the wall, allowing a few Titans to wander in and cause the human students to flee in panic. Thomas Wagner even gets slurped up in the same way as in the original anime. However, he gets spat out...
    Thomas: Wait no, my GYOZA!!!
Connie: MY MOM MADE THAT FRIED CHICKEN!!!
  • Eren tries to take on the Colossal Titan, jumping off the roof of the school building, only to severely misjudge his jump and plummet to the ground. The Colossal Titan then reaches over to Eren, appearing to grab him. Then...
Eren: NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! DON'T DO IT, YOU MONSTER!!! NOT MY PRECIOUS CHEESE HAMBURG STEAK!!!
    Episode 2
  • Levi takes down a Titan... with paper fans.
  • Sasha got kicked out of the Cooking Club for eating the ingredients.
  • Hanji's Jump Scare. As well as the way she summons Levi to the room.
    • To elaborate on the latter, she hands Eren a plastic bottle and instructs him to toss it into the bin she's holding, which is labelled "combustibles". Levi then senses this and immediately bursts through the door to smack Eren's face into the bin with the same Paper Fan of Doom he used on the Titan earlier.
  • Hange going wild when she shows up.
  • If you look in the background, when Mike sniffs the others, they get worried that they smell weird and start sniffing themselves.
    Episode 3
  • Mikasa completely shutting down, spouting off existential quips, and exuding a strange gray aura without Eren nearby. She also steals Armin's futon to use as her own Security Blanket.
  • When Shadis notices Eren is missing during the dodgeball playoffs, two scenes from the original anime are spoofed: the "Sasha farted" scene and the "shove some bread in the mouth" scene.
  • Sasha can dodge the ball expertly, but only because allowing it to hit her would get in the way of the ramen she's inexplicably eating during the game.
  • Eren getting pummeled repeatedly in the final dodgeball match only for Mikasa to catch the ball afterwards keeping Eren "safe."
  • Connie finally learning the rules of dodgeball and winning the game by beaning Annie on the head while she was having an emotional moment with Eren.
    Episode 4
  • The episode Running Gag of the school totem pole depicting the Colossal Titan, the Armored Titan, the Female Titan, the Attack Titan (Eren's Titan form), and the Jaws Titan (Ymir's Titan form) becoming covered by an increasing number of cicadas.
  • After Eren ranted about having to be part of the Wall Cleanup Club, the closeup of his hilariously distorted angry face shows one a cowlick on his hair darting back and forth like a wildly fluctuating analog dial meter.
  • The Omni-Directional Mobility Gear (AKA 3D Maneuvering Gear) being used to climb walls and windows for the purpose of cleaning them.
  • Jean ranting about having to clean windows and then jumping out of the third floor window.
  • Later, he and Eren fight over using the Gear. When Rico breaks up the fight, everyone is frozen in their fighting throes, with Jean stretching out Eren's cheeks. Eren even spoke with his face stretched, sounding hilarious.
  • The scene that parodies Eren's troubles with the Gear, with Rico standing in for Keith Shadis and even when he suffers a fall that was nearly fatal for him in the original anime.
  • Rico has some hilarious lines in this episode. Here are two of them:
"Good heavens! What is this blinding angelic light?!"
"They went without juice, man! They went without juice!"
  • Two Titans appear...to vandalize the wall by painting grafitti on it. Eren tries to use the Gear to engage the Titans, but he loses control and flies right through a paintbrush held by one of the Titans, splatting into the wall while slathered in paint.
    Episode 5
  • When Sasha is asking the others to help her study for the makeup exams, she immediately skips Jean, because she knows he's going to refuse and be a jerk about it.
  • Armin tutoring Sasha in mathematics by telling her to think of variable numbers as foods instead of letters (e.g. x is apples and y is oranges). It works.
    • Before the real tutoring begins, he warns her to not get distracted by the food substitutes they just discussed. That's exactly what happens during the test.
  • Petra punching Oruo in the face for Wangsting about his test scores just to brag about how high they are.
Petra: YOU SET US UP SO YOU COULD RUB IT IN OUR FACES!
  • Hange attempting to finagle Levi into treating her to lunch, with abysmal results.
Hange: However... nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Levi: Starve for all I care.
Hange: (running away) Have it your way! I'll just exploit the Levi name to leech our underclassmen! FYI, you're a stupid jerk and you have stupid hair!
Levi: You really need to work on your comebacks.
    • When Levi gets back to the clubroom, he comes across the sight of Hange tied up in ropes after having gone on a rampage.
Hange: See? You were an absolute fool to underestimate me. (whispering) Let it be known that Hange plays for keepsies!
Levi: Let there be no doubt you're a few sandwiches shy of a picnic.
  • Hange revealing that she keeps two Titans locked up in the Biology room closet as pets. Like the original series, she names them Sawney and Bean and keeps barely avoiding getting her head chomped off.
    • When Levi finds out about why Hange is so strapped for lunch money, he reaches into his bag to give her something. Instead of giving her money to buy food for herself, she gets dog food to feed Sawney and Bean. And then she proceeds to eat the dog food herself.
    Episode 6
  • Mikasa easily throwing Eren over her shoulder to break up a fight between him and Jean.
  • It really says something about Jean's Butt-Monkey status that when he first starts showing off the anonymous love letter he got, Eren, Sasha, and Armin almost immediately assume he's being pranked.
  • Throughout the episode, Jean has been getting letters in his locker from a secret admirer. He fantasized about who his secret admirer might be with every female character. At the end, it was revealed that his secret admirer is a Titan. Not just any Titan, but the Moe Titan. She even says "BLUSH!" when she is around Jean! When Jean dumps her by insulting her height, she smashes him into the ground and runs away crying. Annie says that she will try harder.
    • The way she shyly hides behind a play structure at the park when she shows up.
    • Jean completely losing his mind when he learns who she is.
  • When Annie calls forth Jean's real secret admirer, the force of it causes Sasha to instinctively crouch to the ground on all fours and growl like an animal at something hostile. She even has cat ears and a tail for no reason.
  • Sasha deciding to let Jean feel popular by deluding him into thinking that a daikon radish and a curry bun are two girls fighting over him. Due to his Sanity Slippage, it works.
    Episode 7
  • At the beginning of the episode, Sasha rushes over to buy yakisoba bread at the cafeteria, only for it to suddenly vanish as she leaps to it. Cue Hange running away with a big bag of it and Levi chasing her, apparently after she used his money to buy it.
Hange: Thank you, Levi darling! I promise to pay you back today before yesterday!
    Levi: Like hell, Four-Eyes!
Sasha: Come back, yakisoba! You and me belong together!
  • When Jean uses the mobility gear to get an unfair advantage in one of the competitions, Rico is so enraged by the disrespectful misuse of wall cleanup tools that she knocks him to the ground and sics the rest of her teammates on him for brutal retribution. The vicious kill signal she gives them is the best part of it.
  • After the third-years win the sports day games, Hange, Sawney, and Bean pop open a celebratory party ball, which floods the whole field with confetti. She jumps off the hot air balloon holding it while drooling over the prospect of doing it and laughing like a maniac.
Hange: Hey! If the third-years win, I'm totally allowed to break this open, right? Please say I am! OH PRETTY PLEASE!
    • At the end, Levi chases her around with his Paper Fan of Doom in the closet that she keeps Sawney and Bean in to punish her for the mess.
    Hange: I regret nothing!
Levi: Stop running away from me, Four-Eyes!
    Episode 8
  • This honestly has to be the funniest episode in the series.
  • When Petra introduces Erwin and explains that he's the club's advisor who used his influence to give them access to the school building after hours, Hanji clarifies that "influence" means slipping them the key in secret.
  • Anytime the characters do a wild take upon being frightened during their test of courage, the art shifts towards their designs from the original manga.
    • It's especially amusing when Mikasa is in the same shot with no expression on her face and is unchanged in design.
  • When Eren, Jean, Mikasa, Armin, and Connie head out, we have this little back-and-forth between Eren and Jean:
Jean: Quit waving the flashlight around. Keep it steady!
Eren: It is steady. Quit being a wuss!
    Eren: And you're a horseface!
    Jean: That's hurtful!
  • Ymir, Krista, and Sasha have a freak out in the bathroom, and Ymir runs out carrying who she thought was Krista.
Ymir: Have no fear, my darling! I'll protect you at any cost! That's a promise, A VOW! When this is all over, we'll get married! [pan down to reveal she's actually carrying Sasha]
Sasha: [flattered] Didn't know you felt that way!
Ymir: AAAAAHH! KRISTA TRANSFORMED INTO POTATO GIRL! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY PRECIOUS BRIDE-TO-BE?!?!?!
    • Then she winds up running through the whole school, crying Ocular Gushers and screaming "KRISTA! KRISTA!" with Sasha chasing her and telling her to slow down.
  • The Running Gag of Eren denying he saw or heard anything scary.
  • Eren's Suspiciously Specific Denial of being scared after seeing the Seven Wonders of Attack Junior High No. 3.
"AAAHH! I TOLD YOU NOTHING HAPPENED! I FELL DOWN THE STAIRS! THERE WAS NO CREEPY GIRL WITH LONG BLACK HAIR IN THE MIRROR! AND EVEN IF THERE WAS, I DIDN'T MAKE EYE CONTACT!"
  • Mikasa playing translator for Armin's incoherent screaming/babbling whenever he tries to explain the Seven Wonders of Attack Junior High. The way she gives off a deadpan tone while still doing a spooky voice is really funny. It's even lampshaded by Connie when he asks if anyone else is impressed that she can understand Armin.
  • The fact that Levi somehow removed his head to play the "Headless Dribbler", a headless basketball player that "haunts the gym at night". After the Test of Courage ends, he just pops it back on. No one even acknowledges it.
  • Jean Screams Like a Little Girl. Who knew!
  • The ghost of Frieda Reiss being The Gadfly and deliberately creeping people out on the Test of Courage. She's still nice enough to comfort Krista when the latter is already extremely distressed though.
  • The giant cannon that was chasing Reiner and Bertholdt falling on top of Oruo after Levi swats it away. Even better is that he's still under it by the end of the episode. Nobody has tried to pull him out.
    • Before this, as the cannon was chasing everyone, we hear this from Armin:
Armin: HELP ME! HELP ME! HELP ME! GRANDFATHER! TAKE ME TO MY ROOOOOOOMMMMM!!!
    Episode 9
  • Bertolt's totally Adorkable embarrassed reaction to Reiner (and Ymir) telling him to ask out Annie.
Reiner: Annie seems like a good choice.
Bertolt: DON'T BE RIDICULOUS! WHY WOULD I GO OUT WITH ANNIE?! TALK ABOUT OUTTA LEFT FIELD! IT'S NOT LIKE I HARBOR SECRET FEELINGS FOR HER OR ANYTHING!
Reiner: The guy's an open book.
    • And later...
Ymir: Here's the deal, Bertie. I'm pretty much going to shadow Christa the entire time so she doesn't get mauled by a gorilla or something.
    Bertholt: A gorilla?
Ymir: I'm not up for grabs in this scenario. Best bet is to ask Annie.
Bertolt: DON'T BE RIDICULOUS! WHY WOULD I DO THAT?! TALK ABOUT OUTTA LEFT FIELD! IT'S NOT LIKE I HARBOR SECRET FEELINGS FOR HER OR ANYTHING!
Reiner & Ymir: Worst pokerface ever.
  • One word: "Smirk."
  • When Christa suggests that she and Ymir go to a crêpe place, Ymir randomly says that Christa will get fat, and she freaks out.
Christa: OH, GOD, DO I LOOK LIKE I'M GAINING WEIGHT?! BE HONEST!
  • Reiner tries to compliment Krista, but Ymir isn't having that.
Reiner: Hey, like the look. It's absolutely ador—
[Ymir kicks him in the face and steps in.]
Ymir: Yeah, that yukata is absolutely adorable on you! Hey, wanna get married after the festival's over?
    Krista: Heh. You're sweet.
  • The way Reiner demonstrates his plans to hook up Bertholdt and Annie amounts to him imitating their voices in a ridiculous way and having a chocolate coated banana and candied apple on a stick represent the two.
    Episode 10
  • At the beginning of the episode, Ilse Langnar is running while reporting a scandal in her notebook, only to come across a Titan and drop it as she flees in terror. It turns out that the Titan she ran into was Sawney, who was being taken out on a walk by Hange and Levi like a weird married couple walking their pet dog. Hange then decides to have Sawney return the notebook, which freaks out Ilse because it's basically sending a Titan to chase her.
  • Mikasa yet again breaking up a fight between Eren and Jean by throwing Eren over her shoulder and walking away, despite his protests.
Eren: OH, GIMME A BREAK! NOT AGAIN! PUT ME DOWN! HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO GO OVER THIS?! I'M NOT YOUR LITTLE BROTHER AND I'M NOT A CHILD!
  • At the student council meeting, Annie apparently sleeps with her eyes open, making an angry face that freaks out Hitch.
Hitch: EW! GROSS! SHE SLEEPS SO WEIRD!
  • Armin works on making campaign posters for Eren to become student council president. His "editing" at Eren's direction makes Eren look like some a Picasso painting. For starters, his mouth is only on one half of his face (the half of his face that is blue) and his right arm is some sort of curved tentacle. Yet, Eren loves it. You really have to wonder what was going on in his head when he saw that poster. Even better is when Eren asks what Mikasa thinks of it, and despite Armin urging her to be honest as so to avoid letting him make a fool of himself, she can't bring herself to hurt his feelings and tells him it's fine, getting an Oh, Crap! reaction from Armin.
  • In the candidates' approval rating among the students, the highest rated is Rico at a measly 8%, while Eren and Jean are both literally at a 0% Approval Rating.
  • Levi and Hange sending the candidates on a Wild Goose Chase for Ilse's notebook, causing her to be hunted down by them for her so-called "political weapon".
    • Sasha and Connie don't even seem to be competing at all, nor do they appear to be part of anyone's campaign, so their partaking in this madness seems to just be for fun.
    • Jean calling Rico a cheater for using the mobility gear to beat all of them to the notebook they stole is Hypocritical Humor when you remember that she called him out on doing that during a competition in episode 7.
      • The scene of her using the gear in this episode is one of two times the series parodies her badass moment in the original when she sliced out a Titan's eye. While the second time plays it more seriously, this instance is her kicking Eren out of the sky instead.
  • Everyone's campaign speeches.
    • Rico's campaign platform of mandating all students to participate in cleaning duties gets massive backlash from the crowd, except Levi.
    • Reiner's promises of mandatory swim meets so that guys will have the chance to be in physical contact with girls wearing swimsuits. Naturally, the student body is very divided on the matter (as in, the girls loathe it and the boys are all for it). Reiner drops out (and collapses in shock) when he sees Christa's disappointment in him. Bertolt has to drag him off stage.
    • Without even getting to say one word, Oruo bites his tongue again. Gunther has to drag him by the foot.
    • Eren, being the crazy maniac he is, quickly gets booed for his ranting about the Titans again. Armin steps in to do damage control and successfully convince the crowds that Eren's conviction is what they need and his intentions are correct, earning the support of the whole school. Then, Eren screws it up by calling all the voters cowards and telling them to just put their faith in him, which prompts Levi to jump onstage and kick him in the face.
    • Jean immediately gets the same reaction Eren got by admitting outright that his reason for running is to be popular with girls, not realizing why this would get a negative reaction. Like Armin, Marco has to step in and save face for Jean. Unlike Armin, Marco actually manages to keep the crowds pleased, which massively backfires on Jean when Ilse speaks up to the whole school and recommends Marco himself for president.
    Episode 11
  • Armin as a bunny girl, and he's the main selling point of the Cheeseburger stand.
    • At a convention, Josh Grelle introduced himself as the voice of "a little bunny girl that sells cheeseburgers" in reference to this hilarity.
    • When the others like Sasha and Petra come across Armin as a bunny girl, they freak out.
  • Armin's not the only one to cross-dress. Everyone gets so into the Cheeseburger stand that the rest class slowly begins participating in it, until no one but Jean is left to handle their class's other activity, a performance of Snow White. Jean ends up having to play all the roles and kiss the mannequin.
  • Ymir suddenly splattering disgusting condiments on the rice omelette that Christa served to Reiner, and his face melting after eating it despite the sabotage. When he asks for another omelette, Ymir again tries to spoil his food with condiment bottles, but he guards it with his body, inspiring Bertholdt with his tenacity. And then it turns out that Ymir already replaced Christa's ketchup with hot sauce anyway.
    • When Ymir is about to fire a burst of sauce from an absurdly large bottle of spicy mustard, Christa stops her by head-butting her in the back like a human rocket.
  • Hitch, Marlowe, and Annie are hanging out in the cat cafe. When Hitch sees an exceedingly cute cat, she completely loses it, degrading to childish talking in order to get the cat's attention, making cat-like faces and waving a cat toy around. The cat pays absolutely no attention to Hitch and goes to Annie and rests on her lap. Hitch, still entranced by the cat's cuteness, starts rolling around on the floor, her last roll leading right into Marlowe, who has many cats lavishing attention on him. Hitch then claims she is trying to practice dominance over the cats and tries to exercise it over the same cat she became entranced by. It again ignores Hitch, which makes her run out of the cat cafe crying.
  • Hange giving the biology club's demonstration, starting with tickling the Titans.
  • Sasha attempting to pocket the cheeseburgers, and Mikasa stopping her.
    Episode 12
  • Everything involving the band No Name, which is Levi, Mike, and Hange with bandages over their eyes.
    • They perform to distract the Titans pursuing Eren and the others. The Titans actually enjoy the performance, with one of them (a Titan version of Revo) even clearly yelling "Bravo!"
    • Everyone except Eren knew who the members of No Name are, with Eren failing to see past their Paper-Thin Disguise.
  • When being pursued by the Titans in the principal's office, they inexplicably find themselves in a scale model of the Trost district, which is where a major arc in the original anime took place. The Trost scale model is to the scale in which Eren and the others are to the buildings as the Titans are to the actual Trost buildings. In the middle of the Trost scale model is a giant key that unlocks a door leading to the room containing their stolen food stands. Eren eventually frees the key and carries it himself, parodying the dramatic scene in the original anime in which Titan!Eren laboriously carries a giant rock in order to plug up the big hole in the wall. Eren's eyes even glow green, completing the connection to the original scene. Everyone else helps keep the Titans away from Eren, even the Moe Titan, who tosses Jean towards another Titan. Also, Rico's dramatic scene where she says that her comrade's sacrifice was not in vain. Only for Jean who is sporting amusing injuries that nobody actually died.
  • The return of the Moe Titan, as she saves Jean's life, then grabs him and throws him.
    • In the end, while everyone's celebrating, she grabs Jean again and holds him close, much to his displeasure.
  • The principal of Attack Junior High is revealed to be the Colossal Titan.

Manga

  • Hange is addressed with terms that are not gender specific, alluding to the original Attack on Titan manga doing the same to preserve Hange's Ambiguous Gender. When this first occurs, a footnote in the margins remarks "Thought we'd forget about that, didn't you?"
    • The official release of the manga instead goes with outright censoring the gendered pronouns and the prefix that precedes Hange's name (i.e. "Mr." or "Ms."), often with a word over the censor bar that lampshades the ambiguity.
  • Eren remarking that Erwin with the Titans looks like what he'd expect to see on his mom's Tumblr. The fact that Carla Jaeger has a Tumblr account is funny enough, but Eren's comment really makes you wonder what crazy stuff she posts on it.
  • Frieda's obsession with Christa is amusing enough to read about.
  • Ymir's close relationship with Christa is so big that she can't function well without her. At one fight where she has ended her relationship with Christa, she immediately finds Annie of all people to replace Christa as they're both short blondes. Ymir ends up treating Annie exactly like Christa and completely breaks down once she realizes that Christa wasn't there at all.
  • The appearance of Zeke, full stop, especially if you consider his introduction in the original series. Here, he has become a hobo heavily bent on turning people into Titans (and he's the only confirmed one to be a Titan Shifter in this universe no less). Although there is an underlying condition of how he became like that in the first place.
  • After the anime ended airing, the production team included four original audio drama with the original Blu-Ray release, which comprises of School Festival arc hijinks of the characters:
    • The first episode has Eren and co. planning what to do with their cheese hamburger stand. Mikasa perfects her recipe, while Eren, Armin, Sasha, and Jean argue about how to promote their stand as well as to win the festival's best stand competition, resulting in the formation of their Attackers band to do so (a nod to the manga where they do formed Attackers as an entrant for the festival's band competition). What sells it is Eren's excessive obsession of cheese hamburger and to win the competition that Armin notes that his words will be recorded in the school's year book. something that may put a lasting shame to Eren's reputation (which hilariously backfires as Eren doubles down his obsession).
    • Second part has Jean, now exasperated with Eren's obsession to win while carrying presumably a guitar after performing a promo for their class' stand, going to the Scouts' club room (with Connie tagging along). As the Levi Squad greet them and ask what the guitar for, Oluo starts boasting his musical skills, while Petra and the others talked about their junior's progress with the festival, it isn't until their conversation steers to topic about the "legendary masked band" (who turns out to be No Name) from last year's festival where Petra started fangirling like crazy about them (though knowing their real identity, this is pretty much just Petra fangirling and having a massive crush on Levi instead).
