Film

  • The Cold Open surrounding a team of soldiers transporting a (to them) unknown payload through the Nevada desert to Area 51, with the two soldiers in the lead truck speculating what their cargo exactly is, each guess becoming increasingly absurd.
    • "What if it's the Lunar Lander? You know, the one they "didn't" leave on the moon?"
  • Just the very idea that the Zombie Apocalypse only happened because some dude got distracted by a BJ while driving on his wedding day (and the guy probably married for cheap in Vegas given how improperly dressed he is compared to his bride).
  • In the opening sequence 'Viva Las Vegas':
    • The Liberace impersonator doesn't seem the lest bit fazed about being in a room full of crazed cannibals.
    • The poor sod that gets hunted to his death by the zombified topless showgirls. Not only is he going to die wearing an unflattering speedo and a bathrobe, but one of the zombies yanks off his toupee.
    • The line 'Watch out, Elvis!' is spoken right before the Eiffel Tower replica falls onto an Elvis Impersonator zombie.
    • In a bit of Black Comedy, during the opening, the soldier parachuting in getting torn by zombies is synced with the one of the singers of “Viva Las Vegas” saying “aww, shoot”.
  • As they recruit each member, Ward and Maria slowly whittle down what take each will get from the robbery. It goes from Peters getting $2 million, Mikey $500,000, Dieter $250,000 (despite him being more valuable than Mikey), and, finally, Burt is promised a measly $20,000.
    • It gets better if you keep count. The total prize is $50 million. Scott, Vanderhoe and Maria get $15 million each, the others $2,770,000 in total, leaving $2,230,000 unaccounted for ($2,250,000 if you consider that Burt wasn't in the original plan). This also means that they have whittled the pay of the others more than necessary. They could easily have given at least $1 million each.
  • After going through the plan, Tanaka says that its going to be "Easy peasy, Japanesey." Dieter says that people can't say that anymore and it's now "lemon squeezy." Tanaka starts to say that he's allowed to say it before Peters interrupts and says he can say it because he is "Japanesey." After a Beat (likely wondering to himself if he should take offense to that), Tanaka gives up and says the plan will be "Easy peasy, lemon squeezy."
  • The team's first attempt of setting off the traps includes Vanderohe heading up the elevator and bringing a shambler back down with him, strapped to a luggage carrier, and setting it loose in front of the trap. One can almost see the dim flickering of the thing's inner light bulb after it takes a few steps, stops, frowns, and slowly turns back around before charging straight for Dieter who reacts as expected.
    • They then finally manage to bait a zombie into activating all the traps in front of the safe for them, using a microwaved cut off hand as a heat source/lure. Hilarity Ensues as the thing takes a ridiculous amount of abuse, up until the final "non-lethal" safety feature.
  • Several of the downright cartoonish news quotes are said to come from the President, including on how it would actually be "really patriotic" to nuke Las Vegas on the Fourth of July.
  • When Lily has Cummings at gunpoint, he tries to garner her sympathy by saying he has a mother. Lily points out that everyone has a mother. Given how Zack Snyder also directed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, you get the impression this is meant to be a retort to all those comments on why Superman should have said "Save my mom" instead of "Save Martha".

Meta

  • One cross-promotional event for the movie consisted of Dave Bautista apparently sending a horde of zombies to a WWE pay-per-view to participate in a lumberjack match, to the displeasure of the commentary team.
  • Netflix promoting the film with Mikey Guzman's full YouTube videos (only briefly seen in the movie), where he kills shamblers in various ways for fun (and for views and subs). Special mention goes to "Death by Baseball".
  • After completing the reshoots with Tig Notaro to replace Chris D'Elia, Zack Snyder offered her a fake Oscar for "Best Out-of-Focus Actor" (since she had to be filmed alone with a green screen and be integrated in the film via CGI).
