Once Upon a Time, fairy tales were hilarious.
As per wiki policy, spoilers are off. You have been warned.
- As the story goes on, Gretel gains a propensity to talking to inanimate objects as if they're people, be they pine cone dolls or brushes. She lampshades this in Chapter 7 where she asks a brush for advice and pretends that the brush tells her that she shouldn't be asking brushes for advice.
- In the same scene, Widow Fischer(who's really not all there herself) sees this and calls Gretel crazy. She then proceeds to talk to a dead fish.
- Briefly in Chapter 3, Dotty hijacks the story to tell a story about how Gretel gets a new finger that she uses to fly her and Hansel into the sky where they live happily and can never be hurt again. William takes back over, despite Jacob protesting that he likes that version better.
- While it's also kind of sad because it shows just how much pain he's been through, Hansel being completely numb to the two demons' attempts to torture them and the two demons' growing despair as they're incapable of getting a reaction out of this kid beyond a simple yawn is hilarious.
- Dotty gets caught up in the pine cone soap opera Gretel was making in her spare time during Chapter 3 and completely forgets about the actual story.
- Johannes' bad luck in tracking down Hansel and Gretel. To wit:
- In Chapter 1 he's trying to open the twins' locked door but Gretel has Hansel pull the rug out from under him.
- In Chapter 3 he gets barred from entering the Wood of Life after he makes a smart ass, if accurate, remark about how illogical the idea of a completely balanced place is when some animals eat other animals to survive.
- In Chapter 4 he finally tracks down Gretel but gets a face full of fish from Widow Fischer for his trouble.
