Fridge brilliance

  • A lot of the songs in the two soundtracks give away the ending, like "Cloud 9" (the wolves after the conclusion) and "Heaven's Not Enough", which are the most spoilerific.
  • Cheza's nature:
    • Cheza is blind. As she is both albino (who typically have bad eyesight) and an anthropomorphized plant (which...have no eyesight, as they don't, you know, have eyes note ) this is an interesting take on the portrayal.
    • Cheza can feed off of sunlight, but she's not very green (like a plant person is usually portrayed) and we don't, at all, see her eat. So how does she eat? She feeds through her skin, just like how humans absorb Vitamin D. In that same vein, we do see her drink—something plants do through their roots, not their skin.
    • How Cheza refers to herself is a bit off the wall (in 3rd person, without using "I"). Well, how might a plant-turned-human refer to themselves? Likewise, plants aren't very emotive either.
  • Hige is noticeably pudgier compared to the other wolves, something Tsume teases him for. It's revealed that Hige, along with 22 other wolves was bred and raised by Jaguara hoping to use them as Manchurian Agent against other wolves. Hige's weight gain could be explained by him having lived a luxurious lifestyle as a noble's lapdog compared to the other wolves who had to hunt and/or scrounge for food. Likewise, his appetite could be because he's used to large meals.
  • It is now known that black coats in North American wolves originated from interbreeding with dogs thousands of years ago when they first arrived in North America, so the wolfdog Blue's black coat can be seen as a (possibly unintentional since most people don't know this) reference to this.
  • Likewise Blue the dog looks an awful lot like a wolf, which is odd given the many varied species of dogs there are in the world. Why didn't they make them look more like a Golden Retriever or a Dalmatian or any other breed? One could chalk this up to the animators not being very familiar with drawing animals and deciding to use just one model for all the canine characters until it's revealed Blue is half-wolf. Her design looking similar to the other wolves was deliberate all along.

Fridge Logic

  • The wolves keep their human illusions 90% of the time even when far from humans. This is possibly due to the creators believing the audience would connect more with the characters in human form.
  • The wolves supposedly only create human illusions of themselves, yet are often shown doing things a wolf shouldn't be capable of, such as taking out a robot with their "hands" or climbing a sheer drop mountain cliff.
    • It’s never outright stated whether or not an illusion is all it is. Humans, like wolves, are very social creatures. A strictly visual illusion would be very impractical for interactions with humans; surely humans would be thrown off by these people who can’t use their hands or be touched from the waist up.
      • Though it's been a while since I've watched the show, if I remember right, the wolves themselves already have some supernatural power/association but, in general, anyone around them isn't going to see 'em as wolves unless they're looking for wolves, so, unless something happens that exposes them, to everyone else, they show up as humans, while to the select few (like Quent, Darcia, Hubb, Jagara and Cher) they appear as wolves.
