It's strongly implied that this specific type of werewolves are conscious when they hunt and kill humans. Despite their faults, both Yogami and Wilfred Glendon are really good men, obliged by the werewolf curse to hunt, kill, and (as we see in the newspaper) even eat humans and kill the people they love. This is really terrifying for them, if you think. They are obliged to kill innocent people, they are conscious and they can't avoid or control that. Really sells the werewolfism as a curse.
If you consider this as canon or in the same universe as The Wolf Man and it's sequels, it's very probable that Wilfred Glendon and Yogami eventually can resurrect, and their potentially eternal lifes will be a hell of suffering...
