Fridge Brilliance

  • The Arena boss fights in Chapter 3 with the fairies involved enemy spell cards, but when facing Mysterious Sword Master Youmu along with Tiny Ghost Mistress Yuyuko, they're absent. That variant of Youmu namedrops her swords for each spell card, and as it's revealed in Part 4, the swords' names are the Lost Words. How can she cast those spell cards when those names are lost?
  • One might be curious as to why Cirno's Scarlet version has access to Fire breaks when she's An Ice Person. She hails from a Gensokyo cloaked in eternal scarlet mist. While the mist does contain water droplets she can freeze, the mist itself is attuned to Fire due to its scarlet red color and association with Remilia Scarlet, who naturally has access to the element.
  • In one home screen quote from Koishi (Subterranean), she talks about how she reached Flandre Scarlet's room easily. That would require her to bypass Meiling and raise zero suspicion from the maids and other dwellers of the mansion. Her secret: her ability to manipulate the subconscious, making it seem like she was never there.
  • Relic units typically base their spell cards on those that mean a lot to them. So, one might wonder why Flandre (L80) has one based on Okina Matara, despite the two having no close relationship with the other. They do share a similarity that connects them: doors. Okina is the god of back doors, and Flandre is often in her room behind a closed door. Another thing is that it could be, combined with her other spell card, a reference to the plot of Touhou Gouyoku Ibun ~ Sunken Fossil World, as her other regular Spell Card references Yuuma Toutetsu.note
  • The "Capsule Crazy Gensokyo" event is a send up to Pokémon, but strangely has gashapon as a plot device. Why is this? Pokémon was originally conceived as "Capsule Monsters" and was also heavily inspired by gashapon.

Fridge Horror

  • In Hifuu Lost Word: Code B3, the last you see of Lossy (your normal player character) is her desperately trying to uncover the Lost Word and failing. Given the situation Maribel and Renko find themselves in, it asks a chilling question about Lossy's fate...
  • Kutaka's food delivery alternate costume has her peddling fried chicken, and she's the god of chickens. Suddenly things swerve away from wholesome into potential Let's Meet the Meat.
  • Sunny Milk obtaining a Scarlet (A6) alt may confuse some, as she wouldn't be properly introduced until later in the franchise. The realization then hits: the Gensokyo in A6 underwent a sun-blocking scarlet mist that never lifted, which drains Sunny Milk as she is attuned to the sun. She's forced to adapt to the scarlet mist.
