- How did Howard know that Michelle would fit in the air duct? She fits the same shirt as his previous victim, who crawled into the air duct to escape him (and got trapped by the locked hatch leading her to carve HELP with her earring into the glass).
- Why didn't Howard use the hatch that would bring him into the air filtration unit room when Michelle was making her escape? Simple, Michelle never removed whatever was blocking the passage into the room! He couldn't open it even if he wanted to!
- Presumably she didn't remove it because she'd just found the "HELP" message and earring. She knew she might need the escape route for herself, and that Howard might see the message - and deduce Michelle had seen it also - if he got back into that room again.
