Fridge / Supernatural S 04 E 09 I Know What You Did Last Summer

  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • As was pointed out in this fan meta, Anna's subtle but noticeable uncharacteristic behavior in the opening (namely, how sluggish and emotionally detached she seems) is because she was being treated with antipsychotics for a chemical imbalance in her brain that wasn't actually there; the medicine was messing her up. By the time Sam and Dean find her at the church, enough time has elapsed for her system to work through the last dosage she had, so she's back to her normal self.
    • Dean's disgust when Sam is recounting his sexual experience with Ruby makes even more sense remembering that Dean has seen the true faces of demons, including Ruby. Even in this episode, Anna was terrified seeing Ruby's real face. Back in "No Rest for the Wicked", seeing Ruby's true face for the first time shocked and repulsed Dean. Sam and the audience can only see the attractive girl Ruby is possessing, so Dean's Squicked out reaction seems just like Dean's personal dislike of Ruby, but the idea of his brother having sex with the horrifying thing he saw (in what could be considered a corpse, to boot) must have been genuinely disturbing for Dean.
  • Fridge Horror: We know that one or more demons (possibly Alastair) killed Anna's parents in trying to track her down once she ran away from the mental hospital. But what might that situation look like to anyone not in the loop? Let's see: the "schizophrenic" psych patient who had to be committed because she was hysterical and had to be forcibly restrained by several men, had just broken out of the mental hospital after attacking an orderly. Shortly after she goes missing, her parents are found murdered in their own home. What is the one thing that the police — not to mention everyone else — is going to assume? That Anna broke out, came home, killed her parents, and then fled, maybe when she realized what she had done. Those friends of hers mentioned, her neighbors, her doctors, her teachers and classmates? Will always think that Anna killed her parents because she was "crazy."
