• Fridge Logic / Hilarious in Hindsight: After reading about the characters bemoaning the evils of government and the injustice of having to pay taxes and similar sentiments, one might be amused after realizing that their business depends on government-funded bounties.
  • They do comment on that, even in the first book, and later books show that some Hunters don't agree. In Grunge, Chad Gardenier, the narrator, criticizes the Shacklefords' hard-line stance against having anything to do with the government. He even talks about lobbying a congressman and testifying before (secret, naturally) congressional committees to improve the situation for Hunters.
