- Fridge Horror:
- Complete with Inferred Holocaust, considering what mental hospitals were like in the 1930s, the death penalty might be kinder for poor Hans; he's pretty screwed either way.
- Worse still, remember that the Nazis only assumed power two years after this film was released; how do you think they are going to treat a mentally-ill Jew?
- The film mentions that Beckert has already been hospitalized prior to the events of the film, but was released after being rehabilitated; does this mean that his psychologists were negligent and turned him back out on the streets, or that Hans really is a bastard who's so well-practiced at the compulsion defense that he fooled the mental hospitals into letting him go? Either way, if he had continued to be institutionalized, a lot less children would have died.
