Considering the alterations regarding the third season of JCA, Valmont's Adaptational Badass example makes sense. Like in the beginning of said season, he has the Enforcers steal the Talismans from Section 13, but since the Chans and Daolon Wong aren't in San Francisco to meddle with their plans (and Hak Foo, whose quick thinking ensures that they're able to escape when Captain Black's agents intercept them, hasn't quit the Dark Hand), they're successful. The Dark Hand then uses the Talismans to rob museums and banks until they're defeated in Heatherfield. Even after losing the Talismans and nearly all his henchmen, Valmont has enough money to prevent himself from sinking as low as he does canonically to the point that he can continue employing the services of Hak Foo and the Ice Crew… until losing all his funds upon arrest leads to them deserting him.
