Fridge Brilliance

  • Patrick Warburton voices Buzz on the TV show, but Tim Allen voices his toys in the film. This actually makes sense because it is not unusual for toys with voice chips to use uncredited sound-alikes. (It can be assumed that in the Toy Story universe, Tim Allen is not a nationally recognized TV star.)
    • The same could be said for Zurg, who has a different voice for both his toy and the Buzz Lightyear: Attack on Zurg video game.
  • Why did Zurg have Team Lightyear deliver NOS-4-A2 into Star Command? Because NOS is a vampire, and vampires can't enter a place without invitation.
  • In Toy Story, Buzz Lightyear didn’t believe Woody when Woody flat out told him that he wasn’t really a space ranger. In the episode "Mind Warp", Norbert Klerm brainwashed Buzz into thinking he wasn’t a Space Ranger and in the episode "The Lightyear Factor", the people of the alternate universe didn’t believe that he was an actual Ranger. Buzz is unfazed by Woody telling him he’s not a real Space Ranger because it’s something people told him before.
  • Mira more so than any other character hates being referred to as a "lesser being" by the Chlorm. Given she was raised in a society that views themselves as superior to all other species, it makes sense (rebellious as though she otherwise is) that being condescended in a similar way would sting her.

Fridge Horror

  • During Warp and Buzz's team up against the Chlorm, it's mentioned they were tagged back during the academy. And yet the trackers weren't found for years. How many other people have they tagged, and for what other reasons?
    • We actually get some of the other reasons in the episode "It’s a Zoo Out There", which reveals that the Chlorm gather sapient beings from several different alien species to put on display in their zoos or use as the basis of their experimentation.
  • Zurg is a well established Emperor and behind most villains in the series. It is implied he's been in power for years, and that was even before Buzz came along. He has killed and we don't see everything he is capable of, including the planets he mentions attacking!
  • Zurg ordering to "target the planet of widows and orphans!" is funny because it's Laughably Evil, but try not to think about why is there a planet of widows and orphans to begin with? What happened there?
    • Assuming he didn't just make it up to lure out Buzz
    • NOS-4-A2 killed Savvy’s parents though they were rebuilt and we know that there’s a lot of violent crime on trade world and that Zurg has attempted the full-blown obliteration of other planets and that at least some Space Rangers fell in the line of duty. This might be a WMG but it seems to me to be probable that the Galactic Alliance supports the widows and orphans of those who died for it (I.E. Space Rangers that Zurg) killed so the planet might be for that.
  • In general, the show adds more Fridge Sadness to the toy Buzz's breakdown from The Reveal in the first movie, since he's not just dealing with memories of his purpose and identity being fake, but all his close allies and his adventures with them being such as well (besides possibly toy versions of them as well).
