Just a little change
Small, to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is a Disney media franchise that began with the company's 1991 animated adaptation of the French fairy tale of the same name about an intelligent and beautiful woman named Belle who gets taken prisoner in a castle by a ferocious Beast, who is actually a cursed human prince who must learn to truly love her for who she is and vice versa to break the curse before the last petal of an enchanted rose falls.

Other adaptations of the original fairy tale can be found on its Derivative Works page.

List of works in the Disney franchise:

Feature films

Television series

  • Sing Me A Story With Belle (1995-1997), set in the bookshop in the village, which Belle now appears to run herself. Belle is played in live-action by Lynsey McLeod, and her segments serve as a framing device for the presentation of musical shorts produced by Disney. Gaston appears in one episode.
  • Once Upon a Time (2011-2018), in which Belle and the Beast, who in this continuity is Rumplestiltskin, are major characters. Other characters and elements of the franchise are referenced or appear in more minor roles, such as Gaston and the Enchanted Rose.

Literature

Theatre

  • Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage (1991–present),note  an abridged retelling of the 1991 film as a live musical performed at Disney's Hollywood Studios since the very same day as the original film's release. Most of the vocal performances are pre-recorded except for the characters of Belle and Gaston.
  • Beauty and the Beast (created in 1994), a musical by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice, based on the 1991 animated film.

Rides

  • Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast (2020, Tokyo Disneyland)

Video Games

  • Kingdom Hearts (2002-present), a crossover between Disney properties and Square Enix properties that prominently features the film’s cast.
    • Kingdom Hearts (2002): Belle is revealed to be one of the fabled Princesses of Heart who is sought by the Disney Villains as part of their plans for conquest. Beast fights his way to the villains’ lair to help series protagonists Sora, Donald, and Goofy fight the forces of darkness and rescue Belle and the other Princesses. Notably, Belle and Beast break the usual rules of the franchise stating that a Disney character cannot exit their home world.
    • Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (2004): Belle and Beast serve much of the same role they served in the original game in a new story.
    • Kingdom Hearts II (2006): A world called "Beast's Castle" debuts set as an Interquel of the film. Beast serves once again as a party member as he helps Sora contend with the threat of Organization XIII member Xaldin, who uniquely pulls some of his characterization from Forte.
    • Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (2009): Beast’s Castle returns, with Roxas and Xion studying the Beast as he tries to defend his castle from the Heartless.
    • Kingdom Hearts χ (2013-2021): Beast's Castle once again serves as a playable world, this time notably featuring the debut of Gaston and Maurice, who were left out of previous games.
    • Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory (2020): Two stages based on Beast's Castle in Kingdom Hearts II appear, with a stage set to the title song also available. Beast serves as a guest party member as well.
  • Disney Mirrorverse (2022): Belle, Gaston, and the Beast are among the playable characters.
    • Disney Mirrorverse: Belle (2024): A Tie-In Manga and prequel to the game, featuring the Mirrorverse versions of the characters in an alternate take on the movie story.
  • Disney Speedstorm (2023): The game launched with Beauty and the Beast content including Belle and the Beast as playable racers, plus Gaston was added in a later update.
