Varsity Blood is a 2014 horror film directed by Jake Helgren, and starring Lexi Giovagnoli, Wesley Scott, and Debbie Rochon.

This football season, Hogeye High's Warriors and cheerleaders are out for blood. Unfortunately, someone is out for theirs and they'll be forced to take one for the team. After the big Halloween football game, the students are joined by an uninvited guest dressed as their high school mascot armed with a bow and arrow, a battleaxe and an insatiable appetite for butchery. They find themselves fighting for more than the winning score as terror becomes the name of the game.

Tropes:

  • Alpha Bitch: Tina and Diane, the co-captains of the cheer squad. They are promiscuous, obsessed with status, constantly demean the other girls on the squad, mock anyone who is not a cheerleader or a jock, and expect their every whim to be instantly obeyed.
  • Black Dude Dies First: Linda—the only black cheerleader on the squad—is the first one killed during the massacre at the farmhouse.
  • Blood from the Mouth: When Vikki is shot through the chest from behind with an arrow, she coughs a huge gout of blood into the face of Peter. Whom she is having sex with at the time.
  • Bulletproof Vest: The killer is wearing one underneath the poncho which is revealed when Hannah's mom shoots him.
  • The Can Kicked Him: Blaine drops a packet of cocaine in the toilet and while he is trying to fish it out, the killer shoves his head in the bowl and holds it there, drowning him.
  • Car Fu: The killer steals Bubba's truck and rams it into Robin: crushing her between the truck and a tree.
  • Cruel Cheerleader: Tina and Diane, the co-captains of the cheer squad, best the stereotype of the cheerleader, being a pair of promiscuous Alpha Bitches who are obsessed with status, constantly demean the other girls on the squad, and expect their slightest whim to be obeyed. Hannah, Heather and Linda come across as more reasonable human beings, albeit with quirks of their own.
  • Dangerous Key Fumble: Robin drops the keys as she is attempting to unlock Bubba's truck. She manages to grab them, unlock the door, get in, and lock the door again just as the killer catches up to her.
  • Dirty Coward: Jerk Jock Blaine refuses to aid any of his so-called friends when they attempt to leave the house to fetch help; instead cowering inside and snorting cocaine. When Heather announces that she is going out to help her friends, Blaine tells her that if she leaves, he won't let back in. To her credit, Heather goes anyway.
  • The End... Or Is It?: The last scene shows a hand plucking the carving knife out of the jack-o'-lantern in the farmhouse window before vanishing into the shadows.
  • Extremely Short Timespan: About 36 hours. The film starts in the afternoon of Oct. 30, and ends at what must be the early hours of Nov. 1.
  • Eye Scream: Linda goes down to an arrow through the eye courtesy of the killer.
  • Final Girl: Hannah. Brunette, virgin, with a troubled home life and tragic back story, and most recent addition to the cheer squad, it was obvious she obvious from the start of the film that she would be the one to survive. Her love interest Jeff also survives, but he is unconscious at the point where she kills the slasher.
  • Gardening-Variety Weapon: Heather gets Impaled with Extreme Prejudice and Pinned to the Wall by a pitchfork.
  • Horror Doesn't Settle for Simple Tuesday: The slaughter takes place on Halloween.
  • I Call Him "Mr. Happy": The female version. Head cheerleader Tina has nicknamed her breasts 'Brad' and 'Brother', and talks to them; telling them they are going make her rich some day.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Heather gets impaled by a pitchfork with such force that she is Pinned to the Wall with her feet off the floor.
  • Jerk Jock: All of the football team apart from Bubba are sexists, horndogs, bullies, and druggies. Blaine is the worst of the lot because he is also a Dirty Coward.
  • My Car Hates Me: When Robin attempts to start Bubba's truck, it won't start. She abandons the truck as the killer approaches, only for them to climb in and start it immediately.
  • Out with a Bang: Peter Paxton and Vikki are murdered while they having sex in the back of Peter's truck.
  • Pinned to the Wall: Heather is Impaled with Extreme Prejudice by a pitchfork and left pinned to the wall with her feet off the ground.
  • Red Herring: Finn Youngblood, the escaped mental patient.
  • Sassy Black Woman: Linda is a teen version. The only black girl on the cheerleading team, she has an 'in-your-face' and 'take-no-shot' attitude, and prides herself on being 'urban', despite living in a hick town in the middle of nowhere.
  • Self-Offense: The badly wounded Bubba staggers out of the house and comes up behind Final Girl Hannah. Hearing someone behind her, and thinking it is the killer, Hannah spins around and stabs Bubba in the chest.
  • Severed Head Sports: When the lingerie clad Diane is attempting to flee the killer through the gymnasium, she sees that they have tossed someone's severed head in to the basketball net.
  • Stage Mom: Hannah's mom is determined that Hannah will have the brilliant cheerleading career she never had, starting with getting a cheer scholarship to college. She is so obsessed that she is willing to go along with her boyfriend's plan to murder most of the cheer squad so long as Hannah is not harmed.
  • Teaser-Only Character: Diane, the captain of the cheer squad, is stalked and killed in pre-title sequence. She does not appear in the rest of the movie, although other characters do note her absence and wonder where she has gone.
  • Weapon for Intimidation: Hannah and Jeff find a shotgun when they search the old cabin, but there are no shells in it. Jeff decides they should take it with them anyway, hoping that he can use the gun to scare away the killer. This does not work out the way he hoped.
