Tropes for the film:

  • As Himself: Jonathan Silverman and Seth Green appear as themselves.
  • Executive Meddling: Discussed. Mike Klein, whose brother just took his own life, wants to make a thoughtful Dramedy TV show that would serve as a fictional account of their relationship, and a way of coming to terms with suicide in general. A particularly pushy executive gets involved, and it gets turned into a Lowest Common Denominator comedy called Call Me Crazy!. And does the brother have to commit suicide?
Lenny: "Suicide is depressing to, like, 82% of people!".
  • Limey Goes to Hollywood: In-Universe example. Richard McCallister (Gruffudd), a TV executive who moves from England to Los Angeles to take a job as a second-in-command at a fictional TV network, which is headed by Lenny (Weaver). Richard tries to counter-balance Lenny's fervent desire for high ratings by emphasizing the need for quality programming and preserving the writer's wishes. Richard's wife, Chloe, hates LA and eventually leaves Richard to return to England.
  • Tagline: "A place where dreams are canceled".
