Space Squad is a series of tokusatsu superhero films which serve to crossover the Super Sentai and Metal Heroes franchises.

When a consortium of various criminal syndicates called the "Genmakuu" suddenly emerges, the Galaxy Federal Police brings together the "Space Squad", a team of various Metal Heroes and Super Sentai, to defend the universe against the new threat.

The story of Space Squad is told through multiple films, each of which features a Metal Hero and Super Sentai team coming together to battle one of Genmakuu's 12 Apostles, each of which is a past Metal Hero villain.

So far the films that have been released are:

Episode 2 is in planning as of Kyuranger vs. Space Squad.

Related works include Hero Mama League, a Spin-Off web series whose first and only episode tied-in to Kyuranger vs. Space Squad.

Tropes:

  • Big Good: Comissioner Sophie is the new head of the Galaxy Federal Police and supervisor of the Space Squad.
  • Co-Dragons: Genmakuu is said to have 12 "apostles" who, from what we have seen, are all villains from the Metal Hero franchise. The ones that have been named so far are Hellvira, Mad Gallant, Victorious Saint Coolgin, and Space Ninja Demost.
  • Episode Zero: The Beginning: Girls in Trouble serves as a prologue for Gavan vs. Dekaranger, the official first installment of Space Squad.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Guru Fumein is the unseen, mysterious leader of Genmakuu and master to the Big Bads of each of theinstallments.
  • Legion of Doom: Genmakuu, an alliance of villains from across the Metal Heroes franchise named in homage to the Makuu from Space Sheriff Gavan.
  • Sequel Hook: Evidently setting up the upcoming Episode 2.
    • In Gavan vs. Dekaranger, Benikiba mentions Coolgin as a Genmakuu member who is at large.
    • Kyuranger vs. Space Squad establishes that Winspector's Fire, an ideal candidate to put out the fires caused by the Genmakuu, is still active.
  • Series Continuity Error: Several of the Genmakuu villains are treated as if they were the only character to be known by their name. While justifiable for Helvira, whose series had its events Ret-Gone, it’s more bizarre that Demost and Benikiba never have any character comment on their assumed names.
    • Blue Beet and B-Fighter Kabuto being among the gathered heroes with their armour and weapons should be impossible, since the last few episodes of the latter’s eponymous series feature them explicitly losing their powers for good.
  • Standard Evil Empire Hierarchy: The Genmakuu as encountered thus far.
    • The Emperor: Prophet Fumein
    • The Right Hand: Butterfly Ninja Benikiba
    • The General: Space Ninja Demost
    • The Guard: Mad Gallant
    • The Oddball: Hellvira
  • Super Team: The Space Squad team brings together various Sentai and Metal Heroes for the purposes of combating space crime.
  • The 'Verse: Following numerous crossovers between the franchises, Space Squad establishes that all Metal Heroes and the overwhelming majority of Super Sentai co-exist, with Uchu Sentai Kyuranger taking place in a seperate universe.
