Slash is a 2002 South African Slasher Movie.

Joseph "Mac" MacDonald is the lead singer of the rock band Slash, which is currently on tour. When his aunt dies, the band make a detour to attend the funeral. While the band clash with the rural sensibilities of the locals, one of the farmhands tells them of an ancient tradition where Human Sacrifice was used to improve the year's crops. That night, a scarecrow-masked Serial Killer begins stalking the band and collecting their blood...

This film was distributed by Universal in Brazil & Germany, and Warner Bros. in the Netherlands.

This film contains examples of:

  • Accidental Murder: The killer dresses Billy Bob in his scarecrow getup so that Suzy will mistakenly stab him.
  • Archnemesis Dad: Mac's father Jeremiah is helping the killer, and tries to convince his son to carry on the family tradition.
  • Big Bad: Jethro MacDonald is the killer.
  • Creepy Souvenir: The killer keeps a souvenir from each murder in his lair.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Keith nearly shoots a rooster for waking him up with its crow.
  • Double-Meaning Title: Refers to both the band the protagonists play in and the fact that it's a Slasher Movie.
  • The End... Or Is It?: The killer and his son both appear to burn alive, but the film ends with the son killing a realtor and announcing his intent to kill more.
  • The Family That Slays Together: The MacDonald men have been doing blood sacrifices for at least two generations, and their goal in the film is to convince Mac to join in. He pretends to go along with it by "killing" his girlfriend with a fake knife before taking his dad and grandpa out.
  • Fertile Blood: The killer uses human blood to fertilize crops. It's unclear whether or not it actually works.
  • Gruesome Grandparent: Mac watched his grandfather hide a body before seemingly perishing in a fire. It turns out he's not only still alive but the killer, and tries to corrupt his grandson into joining him. Ironically, he seems to actually love his grandson, even forgiving him for accidentally causing the aforementioned fire.
  • It Works Better with Bullets: Keith tries to shoot the killer, who managed to sneak the bullets out of his gun beforehand, and shows them to him before cutting him down.
  • Karma Houdini: Jeremiah MacDonald manages to escape the explosion that kills his father and announces his intent to keep on killing.
  • Meaningful Name: The MacDonalds are a farming family.
  • A Minor Kidroduction: The film opens with Mac stumbling upon his grandfather Jethro draining some blood from a body, then fleeing after Jethro sets himself on fire while confronting him.
  • Molotov Cocktail: Mac smashes a moonshine bottle and a lantern on the floor to burn the villains alive.
  • My Car Hates Me: Our heroes to manage to drive off before the killing starts, but their bus breaks down and they have to stay on the farm for a few more days. Turns out it was tampered with.
  • One-Word Title
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: It's thought that Jethro burned to death in the opening scene, but he managed to survive and turns out to have been the killer all along.
  • Scary Scarecrows: The killer dresses as a scarecrow.
