Return of the Scarecrow is a Horror Comedy movie by Walter Lodes III.

In a small town, there's a local legend that a family of witches and wizards were killed at the turn of the last century. When they were buried, their evil escaped and possessed a scarecrow hanging in a nearby cornfield. Now, every fifteen years, the scarecrow reawakens to exact bloody revenge.

In the present, the local bartender Josephine (Racquel Viilo) is telling the story to a group of people who've come to town to do some camping up in the woods... where the cemetery, and the scarecrow, are said to be located. They of course dismiss it as just a legend and head out.

All this caught the attention of a couple of locals, Virgil (Jay J. Bidwell) and Wyatt (Pete Houlihan), who decide to have some fun by dressing up as the scarecrow, going up into the woods, and scare those campers right out of their socks.

Of course, things get complicated when the actual scarecrow comes into the picture.

The film was released on October 19th, 2017.

Return Of The Scarecrow contains examples of:

  • Ankle Drag: The scarecrow does this to Janelle.
  • Blood from the Mouth: Jeffers has blood coming out of his mouth when the scarecrow attacks and kills him.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: In the first stinger, Travis and one of the female campers are revealed to still be sitting in the woods. The woman goes to get a surprise, and comes back in a BDSM outfit. Travis then looks to the audience on how he didn't die in the movie, and is about to get laid.
  • Creepy Cemetery: The intro of the movie is shown from the POV of someone being chased through a cemetery by the scarecrow.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: In one scene, an old couple's dog is barking at the front door of the house because Virgil and the scarecrow are right outside.
  • Fade to Black: The camera does this after panning back down to the remains of the scarecrow.
  • Fat and Skinny: Virgil and Wyatt, respectively.
  • Flipping the Bird: Claire does this to Janelle as Janelle goes off with one of the boys to do it in the woods.
  • No-Sell: The scarecrow gets shot in the middle by a rifle, to no effect.
  • Off with His Head!: The scarecrow kills Claire in the story by ripping her head off with its bare hands.
  • One-Man Army: The scarecrow takes on an entire angry mob by itself, and wins.
  • Police Are Useless: People start calling into the sheriff's office about the scarecrow attacks. Sheriff Johnston is at home however, and Deputy Morgan is understandably skeptical about the calls.
  • Sackhead Slasher: The scarecrow has a burlap sack for a head. The sack has two eye-holes and a mouth-hole. Virgil and Wyatt wear similar sacks as part of their costumes.
  • Scary Scarecrow: The scarecrow, of course. Also, Virgil and Wyatt dress up as scarecrows to go scare the campers in the woods.
  • The Stinger: Two.
    • Travis and one of the female campers are still in the woods, and the female decides to break out some BDSM gear.
    • Josephine and Doc have tied the scarecrow back to its post, and are discussing what they will do to it.
  • Stylistic Suck: The first half of the closing credits are accompanied by a version of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" played on kazoos.
  • Team Shot: The group of people in Josephine's story have a group shot with the bartender before heading off into the woods.
  • Torches and Pitchforks: In the story of the scarecrow's origins, a mob of people are shown going angry mob on the witch family.
  • To the Tune of...: The second half of the closing credits are accompanied by a song about the scarecrow's rampage set to the tune of the traditional Irish ballad "Whiskey in the Jar."
  • Twinkle Smile: Travis sports a moment of this during The Stinger.
