The 2012 sequel to the Piranha 3D remake. Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, and Paul Scheer (O'Connell's cameraman) reprise their roles while Danielle Panabaker played the lead. The film also stars David Hasselhoff As Himself.

After the events of the first film, Lake Victoria and the nearby town have been abandoned. Despite that, a water park has been built nearby, with its new adults only extension about to be opened. However, Maddy, the stepdaughter of the owner of the resort, discovers the piranhas might be trying to migrate lakes, along with a conspiracy involving the water park.

This film provides examples of:

  • Adam Westing: David Hasselhoff as a jaded, womanizing jerkass version of himself. One of his lines involves him saying that he's never been a lifeguard.
  • All for Nothing: David Hasslehoff saves the little kid name Dave during the piranha attack. This is made pointless when the kid ends up getting killed anyway by a piranha walking on land when the kid tries to take a photo of it. Hasselhoff himself makes a comment about his Too Dumb to Live behavior.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Sort of. The piranha threat is dealt with when Big Dave manages to set off a explosion in the pipeline that is bringing in the piranha to the waterpark. Barry, Maddy,(the two of whom finally get together) David Hasselhoff, Deputy Fallon, and Andrew all survive. However Mr. Goodman calls Maddy to inform her that the piranha are learning to walk on land which she immediately sees in person. Maddy, Barry, and Hasselhoff then observe a surviving piranha walk on land and decapitate the red headed kid name Dave after he tries to take a photo of it much to his screaming mother's horror. On a slightly more positive, the midcredit scene reveals David Hasselhoff got a new show called Fishhunter after the events of the piranha water park attack.
  • Black Comedy: Even moreso that the first film, thanks it part to casting David Hasselhoff as a Deadpan Snarker.
  • Bloodier and Gorier: Averted. While the film has quite a bit of blood and gore, it is nowhere near as violent as the first.
  • Canon Discontinuity: The film seems to forget that Piranha 3D ended with Novak being eaten by a man-sized piranha.
  • Cassandra Truth: Chet refuses to believe his step-daughter Maddy about the piranha, at least as far as them getting into the park. He does at least know they're real.
  • Deadpan Snarker: When the piranhas attack the waterpark, David Hasselhoff remains seated in his lifeguard chair and snarks at the carnage unfolding.
  • Death of a Child: Chet runs over a little girl and David is decapitated by a piranha.
  • Denser and Wackier: The sequel is much more comical compared to the first.
  • Dirty Cop: Kyle, who receives bribes from Chet to look the other way regarding the illegal activities and safety code violations at his park. He later shows himself to be a Dirty Coward as well.
  • Dirty Coward: Once the piranha start attacking the park, Kyle just starts freaking out and also ditches Maddy when she is in danger.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Barry, to Maddy.
  • Double Entendre: The very name of the film. 3DD?
  • Eye Scream: Kyle gets impaled through his eye by Barry's trident used for picking up trash.
  • Face Your Fears: Deputy Fallon's reason for being at the waterpark with Andrew is to face his fear of water he now has due to the events of the previous movie.
  • Final Girl: Maddy.
  • Foreshadowing: "It's not like the fish are going to follow them home."
  • Groin Attack: Josh gets bit on the penis by a piranha while having sex with Shelby and has to cut his penis off.
    • During the climax of the movie when the piranha are attacking, Maddy delivers one to Chet out of anger for refusing to listen to her warnings about the piranha and in general for using the water from the piranha infested lake.
  • Handicapped Badass: Fallon's titanium prosthetic legs are immune to piranha bites, allowing him to wade into the water and rescue people. He also attaches sawed-off shotguns to said legs.
  • Hotter and Sexier: The T&A is greatly ramped up compared to the original. In-universe, this also applies to the water park after Chet's renovations, with reduced admission costs for hot women, pole-dancing female lifeguards, and an "adult pool" which has an underwater video camera hooked up to a giant screen (for better viewing of the bottom-less ladies) and guests permitted to skinny-dip and even have sex in the water. Maddy is not amused by any of this.
Maddy: Please tell me you didn't just fire our old lifeguards and replace them with strippers!
    Chet: Water-certified strippers.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: David Hasselhoff may be insensitive towards everyone during the piranha attack, but he is completely right to point out that if the people just simply get out of the water they will be safe.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While David Hasselhoff for most of the part doesn't seem to care about anyone when the piranha attack the people in the waterpark (though not without good reason since they are still in the water), when he sees the kid name Dave in danger he does rush out to save him. Granted when Dave gets killed at the climax of the film by another piranha he got near, He's not quite so sympathetic over Dave's Too Dumb to Live behavior.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Deputy Fallon is still alive, and still as badass as ever. Not only is this a spoiler for the first film (where he supposedly died), it's one of the main money shots in the trailer.
  • Made of Plasticine: Like in the previous film. Particularly notable is Chet's death. He gets his head cut clean off by a flag string while driving a golf cart. It'd have be monomolecular wire to have that kind of cutting power at such speeds. A land-walking piranha also bites a boy's head clean off, despite the size difference between it and the head in question.
  • Majority-Share Dictator: Chet is able to get away with his atrocious modifications to the water park (such as the adults-only section) because he owns 51% of the park and Maddie only owns 49% (which he quite gleefully reminds her when she tries to protest).
  • Marshmallow Hell: The main character's douchebag uncle who turned the water park into an adult resort is decapitated while trying to escape from the giant flesh-eating piranhas; his head ends up in a stripper's bosom.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Chet seems to have one when he sees the piranhas attacking people at the water park during the climax and also when he sees a little girl next to her dead mother. Granted it is up for debate if that is because of genuine guilt or because he knows he will be ruined by this.
  • Must Not Die a Virgin: It's Shelby who doesn't want to die a virgin. If only she had better timing.
  • Off with His Head!: Chet is killed when he is decapitated by a string when he flees in a cart.
    • Dave the little boy gets decapitated by a piranha in the final scene.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted with David Hasselhoff appearance and a little boy in the film that is also named Dave. This is a lampshaded by Hasselhoff who points out their similar names. There is also another character in the film called Big Dave.
  • Pet the Dog: Subverted. Chet is a complete scumbag but when he sees a little girl next to her dead mom during the piranha attack, he feels genuinely sad for the girl and tries to atone by giving her some of the money he was fleeing with. It clearly does not help the little girl at all but he seemly truly meant well. It is further subverted since he just ends up accidentally run her down when driving off and most likely killed her.
    • Subverted with Hasselhoff who does rush in the water and saves the kid also name Dave. While Hasselhoff did truly want to save the kid, he is so self congratulatory of himself helping the kid he doesn't even bother to help or notice all of the other people that are still being attack while he stands there.
  • Police Are Useless: Subverted. While Kyle is useless due to the fact he was taking bribes by Chet to turn a blind eye to using the water from the piranha infested lake Victoria and turns into a Dirty Coward once the piranha attack the people at the water park, Deputy Fallon from the previous movie, jumps into action and saves people from the water park while also killing the attacking piranha with his shotgun legs.
  • Pun-Based Title: "Piranha 3DD", owing to the sequel's remake being Hotter and Sexier.
  • The Reveal: The piranha can now walk on land.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: Deputy Fallon's weapon of choice for his metal legs are shotguns.
  • Shout-Out: When the piranhas hit the water park, multiple dolly zooms occur while David Hasselhoff watches the carnage ensue, then snarks that a boy - also named David - went back in the water, a reference to Jaws 2's tagline.
  • The Social Darwinist: David Hasselhoff displays these tendencies in his refusal to help those in the water.
David Hasselhoff: He went back in the water. You little, ginger moron.
  • Taking You with Me: Gary Busey's character's last act is to bite off the head of one of the piranhas attacking him, then fall back into the water.
  • Toilet Humor:
    • Three minutes into the movie we see a dead horse farting out piranha eggs.
    • There is also an in-universe example. Apparently, one of the most popular YouTube videos is of a "laughing diarrhea baby".
  • Too Dumb to Live: Lampshaded by the Hoff when he sees the people getting eaten by piranha. If they'd just get out of the pool, they wouldn't be facing this problem. Heck, throughout the film, he keeps seeing some dumb kid who always keeps going in the water, needing help, forcing Hoff to keep saving him. When the kid gets himself killed after taking a picture of one of the on land piranha, Hoff outright lampshades his death.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Deputy Fallon, who presumably died making a Heroic Sacrifice, is at the grand opening of the water park in a wheelchair. However, once the piranha show up...
  • Vagina Dentata: A variation on this trope - a baby piranha swims into Shelby's vagina while she and Josh are skinny-dipping. The next day, when the two go to have sex...
  • Villainous Breakdown: Kyle when the piranha start attacking the people at the park, starts freaking out and panics. Even when he finally decides to "help" he is basically carrying clearly dead victims and randomly yells for everyone to get out of the water despite no one being around. Tellingly Barry, Maddy and David Hasselhoff look at Kyle like he has lost his mind.
  • Walk, Don't Swim: Barry is a terrible swimmer, so when he needs to save Maddy (who's pinned to a drainage pipe) and necessity doesn't provide the skill, he compensates by weighing himself down and walking to her.
