Kisapmata is a 1981 Filipino Psychological Horror film written and directed by Mike de Leon. It stars Vic Silayan, Charo Santos, Charito Solis, and Jay Ilagan.

Kisapmata provides examples of:

  • The Alcoholic: Dadong is constantly drinking and often encourages Noel to drink too.
  • Big Bad: Dadong is the domineering and abusive patriarch of the Carandang family. He controls the entire household with an iron first and his abuse is the focus of the entire film. It is eventually revealed that Dadong raped his daughter Mila and is the reason why she is pregnant in the first place.
  • Book Ends: The film begins with a shot of the house's exterior at night and ends on the very same exterior at night.
  • Downer Ending: The film ends with Mila and Noel attempting to escape Dadong's abusive household once and for all. They fetch their belongings from one of the bedrooms only to be stopped by Dadong, who, after failing to convince Mila to stay, proceeds to murder his wife, Mila, Noel, and then himself.
  • Fat Bastard: Dadong is on the heavy side, likely stemming from his constant drinking; and is also a scumbag of a person who beats his wife and worst of all, raped his own daughter.
  • Pater Familicide: Dadong kills his wife, his daughter, his son-in-law, and then himself in the film's ending.
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: In the middle of the night, Mila and Dely converse at the bottom of the stairs while Dadong is sleeping. It is here where Mila reveals that Dadong raped her and is the reason she is pregnant.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Mila is noticably taller than her husband Noel. This is discussed In-Universe by Dadong, who uses that observation to mock Noel.
