Kill Ben Lyk is a 2019 British gangster film and black comedy, starring Eugene Simon and Simone Ashley. Ben Lyk is a youtube influencer who witnesses a murder and films it on his cellphone. The London Gangster who organised the hit is unsure which of the many men named Ben Lyk recorded the shooting, so orders the assassination of everyone in London called Ben Lyk.

Tropes:

  • Action Girl: Subverted with The Girl, who accidentally shoots two of the other Ben Lyks.
  • Bald of Evil: On The Dragon Bale, a 6'8 bodybuilder who wears a mask when carrying out hits.
  • Battle Butler: When not gruesomely murdering people, Bale performs mundane domestic tasks for his boss, like pouring him a cup of tea, cooking him a meal, or lighting his cigars.
  • Black-and-Grey Morality: The gangsters are clearly the bad guys, but none of the Ben Lyks are particularly likeable. Hipster Ben Lyk is a pervert, Old Ben Lyk is mentally unstable, Banker Ben Lyk is a sociopath, Charming Ben Lyk is an Affably Evil hitman, Nervous Ben Lyk is a Scally, Rugby Ben Lyk is violent, the protagonist's Love Interest enjoys pulling mean pranks by manipulating people's emotions, and Main Ben Lyk is the one responsible for the gangsters' vendetta.
  • Big Bad: The Don who faked his own death by having a homeless man murdered, then sent his thugs to kill the other gangster bosses in London.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Sinister Minister Rugby Ben Lyk is one of the bar patrons in one of Ben's earlier prank videos, and punches him in the face for disrupting the televised rugby match. They clearly recognise each other in the safehouse.
  • Defiant to the End: In his faked death video, Ben flips the bird while pretending to be shot by Roberto.
  • Dirty Cop: Lead Detective Scott killed the homeless man, massacred the other cops guarding the safe house, then tried to shoot the Final Boy Ben Lyk.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: Just as Ben is about to kiss his Love Interest, Scott splatters her brains on the car windshield with a .38.
  • Evil Is Petty: Rather than monitor the Ben Lyk most likely to have filmed the murder, and either bribe him into handing over the footage or discreetly Make It Look Like an Accident, the Big Bad decides to have everyone killed For the Evulz.
  • Evil Wears Black: Bale wears a black trenchcoat and Cool Mask when committing murders.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Nervous Ben Lyk is a very short, angry man. When he finds out Main Ben Lyk recorded the shooting of the homeless man, he suggests handing him over to the gangsters.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Ben tells his friend to upload the film on youtube, in the belief that the gangsters are trying to kill him to prevent exposure. Predictably, this Batman Gambit fails because now the Big Bad wants to kill him for revenge.
  • Jerkass: The main Ben Lyk's job is filming himself annoying bystanders.
  • Karma Houdini: The Dirty Coward Ben Lyk escapes to a tropical paradise and faces no repercussions for causing the deaths of eight innocent people. Until the gangsters realise he faked his death.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: If Ben hadn't decided to explore an abandoned warehouse, filmed the murder on his phone, or lost his bus pass, the gangsters wouldn't have had a reason to kill him.
  • Old Soldier: Old Ben Lyk claims to be a Shell-Shocked Veteran of the Falklands War.
  • Police Are Useless: One of their leaders is a drunk, and the other is on the gangsters' payroll.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Bale looks like a brutal thug, but surprisingly he only kills people when ordered to and is civil to those not on his boss's hitlist.
  • Sequel Hook: After the gangsters realise Ben Lyk is still alive and living under a French alias.
  • Smug Snake: The Morally Bankrupt Banker Ben Lyk always has a mean putdown for the rest of the cast, and is hinted to be a psychopath.
  • The Alcoholic: Da Chief Talisker is either drunk, or singing nursery rhymes to her kids down the phone. Or singing nursery rhymes while drunk.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Or so it seems. The Big Bad has eliminated all the rival gang leaders so his crew can take over the criminal underworld, and his men have killed all the Ben Lyks in London. Except for the one who filmed the killing, now living in the tropics under a new identity while tricking everyone into thinking That Man Is Dead.
  • The Mole: Charming Ben Lyk is an imposter working for the gangsters. He tracked down and killed three other Ben Lyks.
  • Tattoo as Character Type: Bale the hitman is covered in prison tattoos, hinting at his previous criminal career.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Two of the people Ben Lyk pranked in his videos punch him in the face.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Ben's friend Roberto uploads the video of the murder. The gangsters would have left him alone because they were only interested in killing men called Ben Lyk, but now It's Personal.
  • You All Meet in a Cell: Ben Lyk, Hipster Ben Lyk, Charming Ben Lyk, Old Ben Lyk, Rugby Ben Lyk, Banker Ben Lyk, Nervous Ben Lyk, and The Girl are picked up by the police and locked in a heavily fortified safehouse.
  • You Have Failed Me: Charming Ben Lyk poisons himself to avoid retribution from Bale after failing to eliminate the other Ben Lyks.
