Fly Me to the Moon is a 2024 historical romantic comedy film directed by Greg Berlanti. It stars Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Jim Rash, Ray Romano, and Woody Harrelson.

Set against the Moon Race of the 1960s, Johansson plays Kelly Jones, a marketing maven brought in to drum up support for NASA and the impending moon landing. As she clashes and flirts with launch director Cole Davis (Tatum), a new wrinkle is added when the White House adds further pressure… and orders the team to film a staged landing just in case. The film will release theatrically on July 12, 2024, before streaming on Apple TV+ at a later date.

With the sole exception of a similar premise, this film has no relation to the 2008 animated movie, or the manga.

Previews: Trailer

Fly Me to the Moon contains examples of the following:

  • The '60s: The trailer sets the film against the space race of the 1960s.
  • Meet Cute: The trailer begins on Kelly and Cole's first meeting. Cole walks over to Kelly at a restaurant and tells her she's on fire; Kelly assumes it's a cheesy pick-up line, until she realizes the table candle has set her book on fire.
  • Moon-Landing Hoax: In the trailer, Jones and her team are ordered to stage and film a fake landing in case the launch fails. As the shoot goes wrong, she bemoans not getting Stanley Kubrick to direct.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: There are explosions aplenty in the NASA lab in the trailer. One poor guy gets launched off his feet from a random explosion behind him.
