A 1979 Made-for-TV Movie (AKA A Deadly Game) directed by Jack Gold that has a British operative (David Hemmings) fighting for his life as he tries to leave the Soviet Union and has no one he can trust.

The movie also stars Sam Wanamaker, Jennie Linden, Pinkas Braun, Ian Richardson, Ralph Richardson, and Shane Rimmer.


Tropes for the film:

  • Character Title: Charlie Muffin.
  • Checkpoint Charlie: Charlie's superiors set him up to be arrested when he crosses the Berlin Wall. Fortunately, Charlie is suspicious and gives his papers to an East German hoping to escape to the West. The German panics when the arrest takes place and gets killed.
  • The Film of the Book: Is based on the book of the same name by Brian Freemantle.
  • Right Under Their Noses: The movie ends with Charlie (having betrayed British intelligence in revenge for them setting him up to be killed) relaxing with his wife in a hotel in Brighton, England. "They'll look all over the world, but they won't look here." In the novels the movie is based on however, Charlie does eventually get caught.
