A Man Called Nereus is a 2012 sci-fi action movie written, directed, and produced by Nathan Hill.

Keith Taylor (Seth Gandrud), a drug addict and struggling actor, learns of the existence of Nereus (David C. Hayes), an autistic savant who can predict the future, who is being held prisoner by The Mafia and forced to predict the outcome of horse races. Keith kidnaps Nereus, planning to take him to Las Vegas and get rich.


A Man Called Nereus contains examples of:

  • Berserk Button: Don't knock off Nereus's headphones.
  • Blood from the Mouth: Shown by a few characters who are shot in the abdomen.
  • Character Tics: Nerues presses his hands together and flicks his fingers.
  • Mexican Standoff: One of the two agents draws his gun at the same time a bystander aims his shotgun at them. He won't even let the agents reach into their pockets. He finally lowers his gun when told that he could spend years in jail.
  • Neurodiversity Is Supernatural: Nereus is really from the fourth dimension, sent to Earth in the guise of a disabled man to act as a guide for humans.
  • Proscenium Reveal: The opening scene shows a woman being attacked by zombies, before the director stops the scene and tells Keith, who plays one of the zombie extras, that he just doesn't have the presence to play a zombie.
  • Time Stands Still: This is one of Nereus's powers once he realizes his full potential. He freezes time and takes the guns away from the people who were going to shoot his friends.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Nereus loves raisins.
  • [Verb] This!: A Bound and Gagged man about to be executed begs, "I can explain." His executioner says, "Explain this" and shoots him.
